The Avengers are assembling again…but this time, one of the most familiar faces in the entire MCU is waiting for them on the other side!
Marvel Studios took over the Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event with a massive new look at Avengers: Doomsday, bringing Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Hayley Atwell onto the stage and debuting new footage from the upcoming Marvel blockbuster.
And if you thought we’d already seen plenty of Downey’s Doctor Doom, think again.
The new footage gives us our most substantial look yet at Victor von Doom, teases his confrontation with Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, brings together heroes from across multiple generations of Marvel movies, and sets the stage for what could be one of the MCU’s biggest battles yet.

Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Hayley Atwell Reunited at D23
Yep, this happened.
Three actors who helped define the Infinity Saga walked onto the D23 stage together as Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Hayley Atwell reunited to talk about Avengers: Doomsday.
Of course, things are going to look considerably different this time around.
Downey isn’t returning as Tony Stark/Iron Man.
He’s Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom, while Evans is once again playing Steve Rogers/Captain America, and Atwell returns as Peggy Carter.
Seeing Downey and Evans together again is already enough to bring back some serious Endgame memories, but now they’re potentially standing on very different sides of the MCU’s next major conflict.
We Got a NEW Look at Doctor Doom
The biggest reveal was a new special look at Avengers: Doomsday, which gives us significantly more of Downey’s Doctor Doom.
Marvel’s footage puts Doom front and center as the threat facing the MCU’s heroes and offers a closer look at both the character and the scale of the conflict surrounding him.
That’s especially notable because Marvel has spent much of Doomsday’s marketing carefully teasing Downey’s transformation without showing too much.
D23 changed that.
And one particular confrontation should have Fantastic Four fans paying attention.
Doctor Doom Comes Face-to-Face With Reed Richards
The new footage includes a confrontation between Doctor Doom and Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic.
That’s a BIG deal for anyone familiar with Marvel Comics.
Reed Richards and Victor von Doom have one of Marvel’s most famous rivalries, and Doomsday is finally preparing to bring that relationship to the MCU’s big screen.
Marvel hasn’t revealed enough for us to know exactly what their history (or lack of history) will be in this version of the story, so I wouldn’t start filling in those blanks just yet.
But seeing the two characters together confirms that the Fantastic Four won’t simply be along for the ride.
Their connection to Doom appears poised to matter.
The Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men Are Colliding
And that’s where Doomsday gets enormous.
The movie is bringing together characters from the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men, creating a crossover that reaches far beyond the Avengers lineup we knew during the Infinity Saga.
Along with Downey, Evans, and Atwell, the massive ensemble includes familiar MCU stars like Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd, Letitia Wright, Simu Liu, and Florence Pugh, alongside members of Marvel’s Fantastic Four.
But things get even crazier once the mutants enter the picture.
Several actors from Fox’s X-Men movies are returning, including Patrick Stewart as Professor X and Ian McKellen as Magneto.
That makes Doomsday much more than another Avengers sequel.
It’s becoming a collision of several different eras of Marvel movies.
Chris Evans Is Back as Steve Rogers
After saying goodbye to Steve Rogers at the end of Avengers: Endgame, Chris Evans is officially back as Captain America.
Evans recently teased that the Russo Brothers aren’t exactly taking it easy on Steve this time around, describing his Doomsday storyline as particularly brutal.
What Marvel hasn’t revealed is exactly how Steve has returned following the events of Endgame.
That’s an important distinction.
We know Evans is back. We know he’s Steve Rogers. But Marvel is still keeping the circumstances surrounding that return secret.
And with Doomsday diving deeply into Marvel’s multiverse, there are plenty of possibilities.
Marvel Revealed a New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Poster
Marvel also unveiled new poster artwork for Avengers: Doomsday as part of the D23 presentation.
Unsurprisingly, Doctor Doom takes center stage, reinforcing that Downey’s new character is very much the centerpiece of Marvel’s next Avengers event.
The timing makes sense, too.
We’re no longer talking about a Marvel movie that’s years away.
Doomsday is almost here.
When Does ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Come Out?
Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday arrives exclusively in theaters December 18, 2026. Marvel has already released tickets for the movie ahead of its holiday debut.
And Doomsday isn’t the end.
The movie is setting the stage for Avengers: Secret Wars, continuing Marvel’s massive multiverse storyline and bringing the current era of the MCU toward its conclusion.
But first, the Avengers have a Doom problem.
After years of wondering how Marvel could possibly follow Infinity War and Endgame, we’re finally beginning to see what the studio has planned: Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, returning MCU icons, and Robert Downey Jr. standing in the middle of it all as Doctor Doom.
December suddenly feels very far away.
