Epic Universe is barely a year old, and Universal is already building something big.

New aerial photos from @bioreconstruct on X, combined with publicly available Orange County permit filings, are giving theme park fans their clearest look yet at a major expansion project currently under construction outside the front entrance of Universal Epic Universe.
While Universal Orlando has not officially announced the project, construction activity and permit documents strongly indicate the development of a large dedicated event facility designed to support conventions, private functions, corporate gatherings, media events, and special celebrations at the resort.
Construction Progress Becoming More Visible
Recent aerial photographs show substantial progress at the construction site located immediately adjacent to the front of Epic Universe.

Large concrete foundation slabs have now been poured, utility work is continuing throughout the site, and crews are actively preparing additional sections of the property for vertical construction.
The location sits between the park’s entrance area and backstage facilities, occupying a prominent piece of land that remained undeveloped when Epic Universe opened.

Based on the latest aerial images, the footprint of the structure is now becoming easier to identify, giving fans a better understanding of the project’s overall scale.
Permit Documents Reveal Event Venue Plans
Perhaps the biggest clue comes from Orange County permit filings tied to the project.

According to project descriptions included within the construction documents, the development is identified as a new 53,886-square-foot event space facility consisting of two levels.

Permit descriptions outline:
- A large main event space
- Entry lobby area
- Guest restrooms
- Back-of-house support spaces
- Service areas for multiple event types
- Kitchen facilities
- Office space on the second level
- Storage and mechanical rooms

The documents describe the building as an assembly occupancy designed specifically to host various event functions while supporting operations throughout the park and resort.
Concept Art Shows Elegant Design
Concept renderings included with permit packages reveal a surprisingly attractive structure rather than a typical convention-style box.
The building features architectural styling that closely matches the elegant design language found throughout Celestial Park, with decorative facades, green metal roofing, glass canopies, and landscaped gardens surrounding the facility.

One of the most eye-catching features shown in the plans is a large glass-domed entrance pavilion that appears to serve as the primary arrival point for guests attending events.
Additional landscaping, pathways, gathering spaces, and decorative elements suggest Universal intends for the venue to feel like a seamless extension of Epic Universe rather than a standalone convention building.
Why This Expansion Makes Sense
Since opening, Epic Universe has quickly become one of the most sought-after destinations for corporate events, travel industry gatherings, media previews, and special celebrations.

A dedicated event venue would allow Universal Orlando to host:
- Corporate meetings
- Convention receptions
- Product launches
- Travel industry events
- Private parties
- Wedding receptions
- Seasonal special events
- VIP experiences
The facility would also reduce the need to utilize valuable in-park space for large gatherings while creating an additional revenue stream for the resort.

With the nearby Universal Helios Grand Hotel serving as Epic Universe’s signature hotel, the addition of a dedicated event venue could further strengthen Universal’s appeal to convention and group business travelers.
What Happens Next?
While foundations and site work are currently the most visible signs of progress, the next major milestone will likely be vertical construction as structural steel and building walls begin to rise above ground level.
Given the pace of work visible in the latest aerial photographs, guests visiting Epic Universe over the coming months should expect to see rapid changes as the project moves into its next phase.

Until Universal officially announces the facility, permit filings and aerial photography remain our best window into what appears to be the first major expansion project connected to Epic Universe.
