Walt Disney Imagineering just created a brand-new address at Magic Kingdom, right next to the Haunted Mansion, and there’s no building there yet.

A permit with a made-up address sounds like nothing, until you realize what that usually means at Disney World: something is about to be built from the ground up.

The new Notice of Commencement lists the address as 1610 Magic Kingdom Dr., a number that didn’t previously exist in the system. The nearest known address is 1600 Magic Kingdom Dr., which belongs to the Haunted Mansion, so this new project sits directly in that neighborhood. PCL Construction is named as the contractor, and the scope of work is listed simply as general construction. Because the address itself is brand new rather than tied to an existing building, it points to new construction rather than a renovation of something already standing.

If that area sounds familiar, it’s because it’s already one of the busiest construction zones in Magic Kingdom history. This corner of the park, tucked between Frontierland and Liberty Square, is in the middle of the Piston Peak National Park expansion, the new Cars-themed land that’s replacing Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island, along with the future Villains Land tucked behind it. Disney has said trees will eventually separate the off-road rally area from the rest of Frontierland and Liberty Square, which makes any new structure in this stretch worth watching closely.

The Haunted Mansion itself has been part of that ripple effect all year. Back in December, Imagineering filed a permit at the attraction’s own address for Mecca Productions to “install set elements,” a phrase that usually points to show work rather than plain upkeep. A follow-up permit brought in MLC Theming for general construction at the same address in January, and yet another one landed in late August, this time filed through Disney’s Facility Asset Management rather than Imagineering directly. None of those filings have come with an announcement, and Disney’s official attraction page still describes the Doom Buggy ride guests know and love, with no mention of changes to the experience itself.

So is this new 1610 address connected to any of that, or is it its own separate project tied purely to Piston Peak? Nobody’s said, and permits alone can’t tell us. What we do know is that Imagineering doesn’t usually create addresses for nothing, and a new number this close to Haunted Mansion, in the middle of the park’s biggest expansion in decades, is worth keeping an eye on.
