Another piece of classic Frontierland has officially ridden off into the sunset.
The transformation of Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland continues as Westward Ho Refreshments has permanently closed, becoming the latest longtime location to make way for Disney’s ambitious Piston Peak National Park expansion. Guests visiting the area today will find the beloved snack stand shuttered as construction steadily moves forward on one of the largest projects in Magic Kingdom history.
For years, Westward Ho Refreshments served as a convenient stop for guests looking to grab classic Disney park snacks and cold beverages while exploring Frontierland. The small walk-up kiosk was especially popular for quick bites between adventures on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and the now-closed Rivers of America.
Guests arriving at the location will now find signs indicating the kiosk is closed, with nearby refreshment locations available elsewhere in Frontierland.
Another Step Toward Piston Peak National Park
The closure is part of Disney’s ongoing redevelopment of Frontierland into Piston Peak National Park, the all-new Cars-inspired land announced at D23.
Westward Ho becomes the second Frontierland kiosk to permanently close for the project, following the closure of Big Al’s earlier this year. Together, these closures are helping clear space for expanded guest pathways, infrastructure, and construction tied to the massive new land.
Recent aerial construction photos have shown dramatic progress throughout the former Rivers of America, including new retaining walls, extensive grading, underground utility work, and preparations for the future attractions that will anchor Piston Peak National Park.
Frontierland Continues Its Biggest Transformation Ever
The closure of Westward Ho is another visible reminder that Frontierland is entering a new era.
While longtime Disney fans will undoubtedly miss another opening-day-style favorite, the changes are paving the way for Disney’s largest Frontierland expansion to date. Piston Peak National Park will feature two all-new Cars-inspired attractions, immersive national park-themed scenery, waterfalls, trails, and a completely reimagined section of Magic Kingdom.
As construction accelerates throughout Frontierland, guests can likely expect additional pathway changes, construction walls, and project milestones in the months ahead.
