Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood is not simply the West Coast version of the Orlando event.

Hollywood has its own compact, vertical park layout, movie-set atmosphere, original houses, scare zones and one enormous advantage no other HHN can duplicate: the Terror Tram sends guests onto the real Universal backlot after dark.

For 2026, Halloween Horror Nights Hollywood brings eight haunted houses, four scare zones, the return of The Purge: Dangerous Waters, roaming characters, themed food and cocktails, and a Christmas-gone-wrong Terror Tram led by Art the Clown. It is an ambitious lineup, and a little advance planning will make the difference between seeing everything and spending half the night on escalators or in queues.

Here is everything you need to know before attending Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood in 2026.

Halloween Horror Nights Hollywood 2026 dates and hours

Halloween Horror Nights runs on 42 select nights from September 3 through November 1, 2026. The separately ticketed event officially begins at 7:00 PM and is currently scheduled to end at 2:00 AM. Entry and attraction hours can vary by date, so check the Universal Studios Hollywood app shortly before your visit.

Universal may begin admitting the front-gate crowd before the published start time, but that is an operational choice…not something to build a touring plan around. Guests with eligible Early Event Access can begin entering select houses at 5:30 PM.

The event is rain or shine and tickets are date-specific. Popular Friday, Saturday and October dates can sell out.

Halloween Horror Nights is not recommended for children under 13. Expect graphic sets, loud audio, theatrical fog, strobe effects, darkness and scare actors approaching from close range. Costumes and costume masks are not permitted, and daytime park admission does not include HHN.

How Admission, Entry and Wristbands Work

Halloween Horror Nights requires its own ticket. A standard daytime ticket or Annual Pass does not automatically provide admission to the event.

Arriving only for Halloween Horror Nights

Guests holding a nighttime HHN ticket enter through the main Universal Studios Hollywood turnstiles. Have the ticket barcode ready in the app or in a mobile wallet, pass through security and follow the event-entry signs. Arrive well ahead of 7:00 PM; the security plaza and front gate become busiest close to the official opening.

If You Are Already Inside The Park

Guests who have both valid daytime admission and valid HHN admission should use the designated in-park event check-in location, generally near the park entrance/Box Office area. A team member scans the HHN ticket and issues the event credential or wristband used to remain in the park during the daytime-to-HHN transition.

Do not assume that being inside the park automatically unlocks the 5:30 PM house openings. Early Event Access must be included with your ticket product or purchased separately. In particular, an Annual Pass by itself does not include Early Event Access.

How early can you enter?

There are three common arrival scenarios:

Ticket setupPark accessHaunted-house access
Standard HHN admissionEvent entry beginning around the evening gate openingOfficial event access from 7:00 PM
HHN ticket plus Early Event AccessEvent staging before the main eventSelect houses beginning at 5:30 PM
After 2:00 PM Day/Night ticketDaytime park entry from 2:00 PMSelect houses beginning at 5:30 PM

Early Event Access is one of the most useful upgrades for guests trying to complete every house without Express. It starts at $20, requires separate HHN admission and can sell out even when regular event tickets remain available.

2026 Ticket Options and What Each Includes

Every Haunted House at HHN Hollywood 2026

Hollywood has eight houses: six based on recognizable films, television or music and two original stories created specifically for this park.

Sinners

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners transports guests to 1930s Mississippi and the opening night of Club Juke. The journey follows the Smokestack twins into a blues-soaked battle with Remmick and his vampires. Expect recognizable environments from the film, supernatural violence and a soundtrack-driven atmosphere that makes this one of the year’s headline houses.

Stranger Things 5

The final season of Stranger Things becomes a greatest-threat tour through Hawkins. Guests move through locations including the Wheeler house, Hawkins National Laboratory, the MAC-Z military base, the Upside Down and the Abyss while Demogorgons and Vecna close in. This will almost certainly be one of the event’s highest-demand queues.

Hellraiser

The original Hellraiser trilogy inspires a descent through the world opened by the Lament Configuration. The house includes Frank Cotton’s attic, the Channard Institute and the Cenobites’ Labyrinth, with Doug Bradley lending his voice to Pinhead. It is an especially strong choice for guests who favor elaborate creature design and old-school body horror.

Evil Dead Burn

The Book of the Dead has been opened again, unleashing Deadites inside a family home. Evil Dead Burn leans into the franchise’s mixture of possession, practical gore and frantic black comedy. The title is shared by both U.S. events, but Hollywood’s build and scare timing are its own.

Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness

This musical horror house celebrates 45 years of Ozzy Osbourne’s solo career through the imagery, lyrics and mythology surrounding his catalog. Music from albums including Blizzard of Ozz, Diary of a Madman and No More Tears drives a surreal trip through demons, madness and an Ozzy asylum. Hollywood also features a darkly comic reversal of the infamous bat incident.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space

Exclusive to Hollywood, this house recreates the cult film’s candy-colored alien invasion. The Klowns turn carnival tricks into weapons, wrap victims in cotton-candy cocoons and transform a deliberately silly premise into a surprisingly effective maze. It is likely to be one of the most playful houses in the lineup without giving up the scares.

KILLceañera: Music by SLASH

Hollywood’s first original house of the year turns a quinceañera celebration into a blood-soaked family nightmare. Festive décor, music and tradition collide with a massacre, all propelled by an original score from guitarist SLASH. The contrast between celebration and carnage should give this house a look and rhythm unlike anything else in the lineup.

Dead, Deader, Deadest

The second Hollywood original sends guests into a cursed vision of the Old West, where death is only the beginning. Expect undead gunslingers, frontier horror and a ghost-town aesthetic built around increasingly dangerous stages of the afterlife. Original houses are often where Hollywood’s designers take their biggest creative swings, so do not skip it simply because there is no familiar franchise name above the entrance.

House locations and queue entrances can shift during construction and operations. Use the official event map and app on the day of your visit rather than relying on a prior year’s layout.

Terror Tram: Terrifier — Every Day Is Artmas

The Terror Tram is the defining Hollywood-only HHN experience. Guests board the Studio Tour trams, travel into the backlot and then disembark for a long outdoor walkthrough across real production property.

In 2026, Art the Clown transforms Christmas into “Every Day Is Artmas.” The route passes through seven backlot scare environments filled with homicidal holiday imagery, while an original score from Ice Nine Kills adds to the chaos. Art also appears elsewhere in the event in multiple roaming looks.

The Terror Tram is not a traditional indoor house. It involves hills, uneven outdoor surfaces, extended walking and exposure to the weather. Its final entry is normally earlier than the park’s 2:00 AM closing time, so never leave it until the final hour. Check the posted last-departure time as soon as you arrive.

All Four Scare Zones

Scare zones are included with admission and operate in the park’s outdoor streets. They are not queues — you simply walk through them as you travel between attractions.

Fortnitemares: Freaky Fields

The world of Fortnite becomes a live battleground populated by familiar Halloween threats and centered around the Battle Bus. This is a moving, energetic zone designed to feel as though the match is changing around its guests.

El Circo de la Muerte

French Street becomes a Mexican carpa sideshow inspired by traveling tent shows of the 1920s and 1930s. A sinister ringmaster presides over a dancing bear, a towering bearded lady and other performers who have made death part of the act.

Hackerz

Chainsaws roar into New York Street as a violent crew of Hackerz spills through the city. This is the event’s direct, high-energy chainsaw zone and an important reminder that the scares begin almost immediately after entering the park.

Blood Bog

Near the Studio Tour rotunda, ghillie-suited swamp creatures disappear into a murky landscape before emerging beside unsuspecting guests. The camouflage and lower lighting make this zone especially effective after full darkness.

Scare actors can adjust their performance for obvious accessibility needs, but there are no completely scare-free routes through the event. Team members can help identify the most direct path if someone in the group needs to avoid lingering in a zone.

Roaming Characters and Character Encounters

HHN does not offer a traditional theme-park character schedule for most monsters, but 2026 has several notable street encounters:

  • Murder of Crowz: a roaming family of oversized father, mother and baby crows.
  • Shriek of the Banshee: a traveling wagon accompanied by a carnival barker and talking skeleton.
  • Art the Clown: Art stalks the park in several costumes in addition to headlining the Terror Tram.
  • Freaky Nikki: a hidden character encounter inspired by Curry Barker’s Obsession.
Universal
  • HamiKuma: Universal Studios Japan’s mischievous Halloween bear appears for meet-and-greets at select afternoon and early-evening times on event nights.
  • Death Eaters: dark wizards appear in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter beginning in the early evening.

Times and locations for structured encounters (especially HamiKuma) should be checked in the app or with a team member on the day of the event. Roaming characters do not maintain a fixed meet-and-greet queue.

Live entertainment: The Purge — Dangerous Waters

The Purge: Dangerous Waters returns to the WaterWorld venue for a fourth consecutive season. The stunt spectacular combines performers, pyrotechnics, fire effects, high falls and water stunts in a story set within the lawless world of The Purge.

The show provides two practical benefits: it is a major entertainment offering in its own right, and it gives tired guests a chance to sit down. Arrive early enough to clear the queue before showtime, especially for the final performance. Express and R.I.P. seating are subject to capacity, and a credential does not help after the theater has closed.

Hollywood does not have a fireworks show at Halloween Horror Nights. The event’s nighttime spectacle comes from its scare zones, stunt show, lighting, fire and projection effects rather than a castle-style nighttime spectacular.

Photo Opportunities

Official themed photo opportunities are typically staged in Universal Plaza and outside the Terror Tram, with additional atmospheric backdrops and props throughout the park. R.I.P. Tour guests also receive access to special themed photo opportunities included with the tour.

Nighttime phone photography is challenging, so use Night mode where permitted, brace the phone and avoid blocking active walkways. Flash photography is not permitted in scare zones, and photos or video may be prohibited inside houses. Always follow the posted rules and team-member directions.

Rides and Lands Open During Halloween Horror Nights

Select daytime attractions remain available during the event. The currently announced or listed lineup includes:

  • SUPER NINTENDO WORLD and Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, scheduled to be available to event guests from 7:00 to 10:00 PM in 2026
  • Transformers: The Ride — 3D
  • Revenge of the Mummy — The Ride
  • Jurassic World — The Ride
  • The Simpsons Ride
  • Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
  • Flight of the Hippogriff

Attractions may close earlier than the event. Current planning information lists Jurassic World around 12:15 AM and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey around 11:15 PM, but those hours can change nightly. The Studio Tour does not operate normally because the route is used for the Terror Tram. Family attractions such as Despicable Me Minion Mayhem and The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash are not normally part of the HHN lineup.

Ride queues are often shortest during peak house demand, but every ride consumes time that could be spent in a maze. If completing all eight houses is the priority, save rides for a daytime visit or choose only one or two favorites.

Halloween Horror Nights 2026 Food and Drinks

Universal has distributed its event menu across the Upper Lot, Lower Lot, Universal Plaza and backlot-adjacent venues. Availability and pricing can change, but these are the major 2026 collections and highlights.

Other limited items include the Severed & Smoked Chicken tied to Evil Dead Burn. Alcohol is restricted to guests 21 and older with valid photo identification. Theme-park pours are measured, and security or team members may refuse service to an impaired guest.

The optional HHN Dining Pass costs $64.75 including tax and includes two eligible entrées plus four eligible sides, snacks, desserts or beverages. Not every event item qualifies. Alcohol, Starbucks, Coca-Cola Freestyle drinks, kids’ meals and certain specialty products are excluded, and event admission is still required. Compare the eligible-item symbols and prices before buying; the pass has the best value when used on higher-priced entrées and qualifying specialty drinks.

Outside food and beverages are restricted under Universal’s event policies, with exceptions generally made for medical needs and baby food. Review the current security rules before packing a bag.

The New Unmasking the Horror Tour

For the first time in Hollywood, Universal is offering a daytime, lights-on Unmasking the Horror Tour. The 2026 tour includes one walkthrough each of Sinners and KILLceañera: Music by SLASH, allowing guests to see scenery and details without show lighting or scare actors.

The add-on begins at $20, lasts up to one hour and operates on select days from September 10 through November 1, with departures approximately every 30 minutes from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Groups are limited to about 20 people. It does not include daytime admission, so valid same-date theme-park admission is required. Check in at the Box Office at least 15 minutes early. Photography is allowed only in designated areas.

Accessibility, Bags and Practical Planning

Many houses can accommodate wheelchairs, but standard strollers, electric convenience vehicles and some mobility devices may need to remain outside or transfer according to the posted requirements. Ask Guest Relations or the attendant at each entrance for the current procedure. Universal’s Attraction Assistance Pass and other accommodations are based on individual needs and do not function as an unlimited front-of-line pass.

Some experiences feature tight corridors, theatrical fog, strobe lighting, startling audio, uneven surfaces and graphic imagery. The Terror Tram is the most physically demanding component. Guests with heart conditions, sensitivity to fog or strobes, pregnancy-related restrictions or mobility concerns should review each posted warning before entering.

Use a small bag if possible. Every bag increases security and locker friction, and the Hollywood layout already demands considerable walking. Wear broken-in shoes, bring a portable phone battery and carry a light layer; temperatures on the Lower Lot and backlot can feel cooler late at night.

The Best One-night Touring Strategy

Hollywood’s biggest planning challenge is geography. The Upper Lot sits above the Lower Lot and the backlot house areas, connected by the long series of Starway escalators. Crossing between them repeatedly wastes valuable time.

For a General Admission night with Early Event Access:

  1. Arrive before the Early Event Access check-in window and have every ticket already loaded.
  2. Start with the early-opening house that is expected to command the longest wait (such as Stranger Things 5 or Sinners) then complete the other nearby early-access houses.
  3. Stay in the same geographic cluster and finish its houses before riding the Starway back uphill.
  4. Complete the Terror Tram well before its last departure.
  5. Choose a performance of The Purge: Dangerous Waters that does not force you to cross the park twice.
  6. Visit scare zones and take food breaks as you naturally pass them instead of scheduling separate return trips.
  7. Save lower-demand original houses or reruns for the final 60–90 minutes, when many guests begin leaving.

Wait times can become inflated immediately after the main gate opens. A posted 90-minute queue is not automatically a better choice than walking five minutes to a 25-minute house and returning later. Watch the app, but also look at the physical queue entrance; posted times can lag behind real conditions.

With one-time Express, scan it only after confirming the standby wait is worth skipping. A house with a 10-minute standby line is usually better experienced through standby, preserving mental flexibility even though the Express entitlement is technically house-specific rather than a pooled credit.

Is Express Worth It At HHN Hollywood?

On a sold-out Friday or Saturday, Express is often the difference between completing the full lineup comfortably and making difficult cuts. It is less essential on an early-season weeknight if you arrive for Early Event Access, stay until closing and tour efficiently.

Choose Express Select only if its three included experiences match your priorities; it does not cover the other seven houses. Choose Unlimited Express if repeating favorite houses matters. Choose the R.I.P. Tour if your highest priority is seeing the complete event with minimal logistical stress and the budget is comfortable.

No pass eliminates all waiting. Security, walking, preshows, merge points, food lines and temporary attraction delays still take time.

Final Tips Before You Go

  • Buy parking in advance when offered and allow extra time for the walk through CityWalk.
  • Download the Universal Studios Hollywood app, sign in and add tickets before leaving home.
  • Screenshot ticket barcodes in case cellular service slows near the gate.
  • Eat an early meal or use mobile ordering where available; prime dinner queues can rival house waits.
  • Check showtimes and the Terror Tram’s last departure first, because houses generally remain available later.
  • Group experiences by Upper Lot, Lower Lot and backlot instead of chasing the lowest posted wait across the park.
  • Do not count on a house staying open after a weather, technical or staffing delay.
  • If a must-do experience is temporarily unavailable, continue touring and check again later.
  • Save shopping for the end unless a limited item is the main priority. The main Studio Store in CityWalk can be easier than carrying purchases all night.

Halloween Horror Nights Hollywood 2026 has one of the event’s most varied lineups: prestige horror in Sinners, blockbuster nostalgia in Stranger Things 5, music-driven nightmares from Ozzy and SLASH, colorful cult comedy in Killer Klowns and an unmistakably Hollywood Terror Tram. Arrive early, minimize trips on the Starway and treat the Terror Tram and showtimes as fixed appointments. Do that, and one night can hold far more screams than the park map initially suggests.
