September is shaping up to be a genuinely stacked month for Disney+, and I mean that in the best way!
Two of the year’s biggest theatrical releases are landing on the service within the same few weeks.
Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu hits Disney+ on September 2nd, bringing Din Djarin and Grogu’s big-screen debut home to streaming. Directed by Jon Favreau and starring Pedro Pascal, the film follows the beloved bounty hunter duo on what’s being billed as their most thrilling mission yet, as the fledgling New Republic enlists their help dealing with scattered Imperial warlords in the wake of the Empire’s fall. This marks Star Wars’ first real return to the big screen since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, so its streaming arrival is a genuinely big deal for fans who’ve been living almost entirely on Disney+ Star Wars content for years now. It’s arriving with company, too…a companion LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian animated special and a behind-the-scenes Mandalorian and Grogu podcast both drop the same day.
And then, later in the month, it’s Pixar’s turn. Toy Story 5 arrives on Disney+ September 23rd, following its June 19th theatrical release. Pixar has landed a film in that same June release slot nearly every year since Toy Story 3 back in 2010, so there’s a nice bit of franchise symmetry to how this one rolled out before making its way to streaming.
Beyond the two biggest arrivals, September’s lineup has plenty else going on. Chad Powers returns for its full Season 2 premiere on September 3rd, FX’s The Drop: A Snowfall Saga kicks off its season premiere September 8th, and Made in Korea brings new Season 2 episodes September 9th. Dancing With the Stars returns for Season 35 with a two-night premiere on September 15th and 16th, and R.J. Decker’s Season 2 premiere lands September 16th as well. The iHeartRadio Music Festival streams live September 18th and 19th, and FX’s American Horror Story: 13 kicks off with a three-episode premiere September 24th. On the recurring side, a Countdown to Avengers: Doomsday official podcast drops every Thursday, and ESPN College Football coverage (including College GameDay and two live games) continues every Saturday for anyone who uses Disney+ for their bundle access to ESPN content. Marvel’s Kraven the Hunter is also joining the library this month, along with new episodes of Pokémon: Indigo League and the latest season of The Simpsons.
Between a Star Wars theatrical debut, Pixar’s newest entry, and a genuinely packed reality and drama slate on top of it, September is one of the busier release months Disney+ has had in a while.
