Disney+ is making a major play, and it could change how millions of fans watch sports around the world!

For years, Disney+ has been the home of Marvel, Star Wars, and family entertainment. But now? It’s stepping even further into the sports arena—and the latest move is a big one.
In a newly announced expansion, ESPN is officially launching on Disney+ across Europe and select Asia-Pacific markets, marking a significant step in Disney’s global streaming strategy.
The rollout makes ESPN content available in 53 countries and territories, bringing the total reach of ESPN on Disney+ to around 100 markets worldwide.
And this isn’t just a small content add-on—it’s a major shift in how Disney is packaging its streaming experience.
Subscribers in these regions will now be able to access live sports events, studio shows, original programming, and sports films—all within the Disney+ app, alongside the platform’s usual lineup of movies and series.
That means one app…for everything.
So why does this matter?
This move signals Disney’s continued push toward becoming a one-stop streaming hub, blending entertainment, sports, and eventually even more content under a single subscription. In fact, Disney has already been experimenting with integrating ESPN into Disney+ in other regions, including the U.S. and Latin America.
And the content lineup is only expected to grow.
Over the next year, Disney says the offering could expand to include thousands of live sporting events, with coverage tied to major leagues like the NBA and NHL beginning with the 2026–2027 seasons.
In select Asia-Pacific markets—like Japan, South Korea, and Singapore—subscribers will initially get a curated selection of English-language ESPN programming, with more expected to roll out over time.
For Disney fans, this is another example of how the company is evolving beyond just theme parks and movies.
Streaming is becoming the new battleground—and by folding ESPN deeper into Disney+, the company is making a clear play for sports fans who may never have subscribed otherwise.
