All aboard for one last ride before it parks itself for a bit!
The Walt Disney World Railroad at Magic Kingdom is closing for refurbishment next month, and it’ll be out of commission for a solid chunk of the fall.
The train will close September 28 and reopen to guests October 30, putting it out of service for a full month. Once it’s back, it’ll continue running in shuttle mode, meaning it only travels back and forth between Main Street, U.S.A. and Storybook Circus rather than making its full loop around the park. The Frontierland station remains closed in the meantime too, a casualty of ongoing construction tied to Piston Peak National Park and Disney Villains Land.
If shuttle mode sounds familiar, that’s because it’s not new — the railroad shifted to this reduced route back in July 2025, and this refurbishment isn’t reversing that change. So even after the train comes back online in late October, don’t expect the classic full-park loop to return alongside it.
This closure lands right in the middle of a genuinely busy refurbishment stretch at Magic Kingdom. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is also heading offline for its own refurbishment this winter, and between that and the ongoing Frontierland construction, this fall is shaping up to be one with a fair number of “plan around this” notes for anyone visiting.
If a ride on the Walt Disney World Railroad is part of your must-do list, the window to catch it before the closure is narrowing fast, and once it’s back, remember you’re only getting the Main Street to Storybook Circus stretch, not the full nostalgic loop around the park.
