Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of the toys are officially heading to Disney+!

After becoming one of the biggest movies of 2026, Disney and Pixar have announced that Toy Story 5 will begin streaming exclusively on Disney+ on September 23, 2026.

That means families who skipped the theatrical release—or simply want to watch Woody and Buzz again without paying for a separate rental—now have less than a month to wait.

And considering just how successful this latest trip back to Bonnie’s room has been, Disney is bringing one of its biggest recent theatrical releases to the platform.

Toy Story 5 opened in theaters on June 19, 2026, nearly seven years after Toy Story 4. The new film turns the franchise’s familiar question of what it means to be a toy toward a very modern problem: what happens when kids would rather play with technology?

Woody, voiced once again by Tom Hanks, reunites with Tim Allen’s Buzz Lightyear and Joan Cusack’s Jessie as Bonnie’s toys encounter Lilypad, a frog-shaped tablet voiced by Greta Lee. Lilypad arrives with her own ideas about what’s best for Bonnie, leaving the traditional toys confronting a threat that doesn’t come from another toy at all.

The movie is directed by Andrew Stanton, co-directed by Kenna Harris, and features Randy Newman returning to score his fifth Toy Story feature.

The result has been another enormous success for Pixar.

Toy Story 5 has earned more than $1.1 billion worldwide, becoming one of Disney’s biggest theatrical successes of the year. The movie’s performance was significant enough that Disney specifically highlighted Toy Story 5 while reporting its latest quarterly results, with the company saying the franchise’s success extended beyond movie theaters into merchandise, Disney+ engagement, and even its theme parks.

And there’s already evidence that audiences were eager to bring the movie home.

Toy Story 5 became available to purchase or rent digitally on August 18, and by August 25, it ranked as the No. 1 movie purchase or rental in the United States through the Apple TV app.

The September 23 Disney+ debut will remove that separate purchase requirement for Disney+ subscribers.

Physical-media collectors actually get the movie one day earlier: Toy Story 5 is scheduled for release on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on September 22. Those releases include bonus material such as deleted scenes, a gag reel, audio commentary, and behind-the-scenes features exploring the making and voice cast of the movie.

Bringing the newest movie to Disney+ is particularly notable because this isn’t just another popular Disney franchise on the service.

According to Disney, Toy Story is the most-watched film franchise on Disney+, with viewers having streamed more than 2 billion hours of Toy Story content on the platform.

The first four movies are already available through the service alongside additional Toy Story shorts and specials, making September 23 the date subscribers can finally add the fifth theatrical movie to their at-home marathon.

Disney is also using the streaming launch to continue promoting one of the movie’s biggest musical additions.

An all-new music video for the piano version of Taylor Swift’s original song “I Knew It, I Knew You” has been released featuring footage from Toy Story 5. The video is available through Disney+, while the song can also be heard through Spotify and Apple Music.

For Disney, the streaming release is also another example of how the company is using its biggest franchises across multiple parts of the business.

Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro recently pointed specifically to Toy Story 5 while discussing the company’s strategy of extending successful franchises beyond their theatrical releases. Disney reported that the movie helped drive merchandise sales and Disney+ engagement, while the broader Toy Story franchise also continues to have a major presence throughout Disney’s theme parks.

So even though the theatrical run may be winding down, Disney clearly isn’t finished with Toy Story 5 yet. Toy Story 5 begins streaming exclusively on Disney+ Wednesday, September 23, 2026. If you don’t want to wait, the movie is already available digitally to purchase or rent, while the physical release arrives September 22. And with the entire franchise available in one place, September might be a pretty good time to start planning that Toy Story movie marathon.
