Epic Universe just celebrated its first birthday, but Universal says the park’s story is only beginning.

As Universal Orlando Resort’s newest theme park marks one year since opening, executives are already looking ahead to what comes next for the massive destination.

In a recent interview with USA TODAY, Universal Orlando Executive Vice President and Epic Universe General Manager Jeff Polk revealed that the resort plans to spend the next year and a half testing new ideas and operational strategies as it continues to refine the guest experience.

One of the biggest revelations from the interview involves Universal’s willingness to experiment.

Polk confirmed that Epic Universe will continue testing different operational concepts, including special event access and new ways guests can experience portions of the park. The comments came after Universal allowed attendees of the Premiere Orlando beauty convention limited access to Celestial Park during select event dates.

Stardust Racers

According to Polk, Universal intends to keep exploring ideas that enhance guest experiences without negatively impacting regular park operations.

“We’re always testing things,” Polk told USA TODAY, emphasizing that Universal wants to understand what works best before making any large-scale changes.

Guest Feedback Is Shaping the Park

Perhaps one of the most interesting takeaways is how much guest behavior is influencing Epic Universe’s evolution.

Universal

Polk noted that certain unexpected fan favorites have emerged during the park’s first year. Characters like Ygor in Dark Universe and locations such as The Plastered Owl have developed passionate followings among guests, prompting Universal to consider expanding and enhancing those experiences moving forward.

The company is also paying close attention to character interactions, seasonal offerings, entertainment, and atmospheric details that resonate most strongly with visitors.

More Holiday Offerings Could Be Coming

If you enjoyed Epic Universe during the holiday season, there’s more good news.

Universal confirmed that holiday décor and seasonal experiences introduced during the park’s first year were successful enough that the company plans to expand those offerings in future years. Additional entertainment, food, and themed experiences could be added as Epic Universe enters its second holiday season.

The Numbers Are Impressive

The park’s first year has been significant not only for guests but also for Central Florida.

According to Universal, Epic Universe generated approximately $2 billion in economic impact during its first year alone. Polk also revealed that millions of guests have visited the park since opening, while Universal Orlando’s hotel inventory continues to see extremely strong occupancy levels.

Epic Universe became Orlando’s first entirely new theme park in 25 years when it opened on May 22, 2025. Today, the 110-acre park features five immersive worlds: Celestial Park, Dark Universe, Super Nintendo World, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic.

Expansion Potential Is Everywhere

And then there’s the topic theme park fans always love discussing: expansion.

Bioreconstruct

While Universal isn’t revealing specific future plans, Polk acknowledged that the park’s future growth is very much part of the long-term vision. Epic Universe sits within a much larger 750-acre development, leaving hundreds of acres available for future projects, attractions, hotels, and experiences.

Bioreconstruct

Polk described Epic Universe as a “long-haul proposition,” suggesting that what guests see today is only the beginning of what the resort could eventually become.

The Next Chapter Begins

For many theme park fans, Epic Universe already feels like a game-changer.

Between groundbreaking attractions like Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, and Stardust Racers, the park has quickly established itself as one of the most ambitious theme park projects ever built.

But if Universal’s leadership is to be believed, the first year was just the opening act.

Dark Universe

With new experiments, seasonal offerings, guest-inspired enhancements, and plenty of room for expansion still ahead, Epic Universe’s future may be even more exciting than its debut.
