Planning a Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, cruise, or Florida beach vacation may soon get a whole lot easier.

Following the recent shutdown of Spirit Airlines operations, several airlines are stepping in to restore and expand nonstop service to Florida. New and replacement routes are helping reconnect major cities to the Sunshine State, giving travelers more options to reach popular destinations like Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, and beyond.
After Spirit Airlines discontinued operations, several carriers moved quickly to fill the gaps left behind in key Florida markets.

Many of Spirit’s former routes are now being served by a combination of Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Breeze Airways, JetBlue, and other carriers, ensuring travelers still have nonstop access to Florida’s most popular destinations.
Tampa to Atlanta Returns With Multiple Airlines
One of Spirit’s former routes connecting Tampa International Airport and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has already been picked up by several carriers.

Travelers can now choose from Delta, Southwest, and Frontier when flying nonstop between Tampa and Atlanta. The route remains one of the most important domestic connections for Florida visitors thanks to Atlanta’s status as one of the nation’s largest airline hubs.
Tampa and Detroit Stay Connected
Another route returning to the market connects Tampa International Airport and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport.

The nonstop service is now available through Delta, Frontier, and Southwest, ensuring continued access between Florida’s Gulf Coast and one of the Midwest’s busiest travel markets.
Chicago Travelers Still Have Plenty of Tampa Options
Guests traveling to Florida from Chicago won’t be losing their nonstop options either.

Direct service between Chicago and Tampa is now available through American Airlines, Frontier Airlines, United Airlines, and Southwest Airlines. The route remains especially popular with vacationers heading to Walt Disney World, Gulf Coast beaches, and cruise ports throughout Florida.
Tampa to New Orleans Continues
For travelers heading between Florida and Louisiana, Spirit’s former Tampa-to-New Orleans route has also found new life.

Breeze Airways and Southwest Airlines are now offering nonstop service between Tampa and New Orleans, maintaining a convenient connection between the two popular tourist destinations.
Fort Lauderdale Service Remains Available
Another former Spirit route connected Tampa International Airport with Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

Travelers can now book nonstop service on that route through Breeze Airways, JetBlue Airways, and Southwest Airlines. The route is especially useful for guests sailing from Port Everglades or visiting South Florida attractions and beaches.
Brand-New Tampa to Atlantic City Route Launches July 1
One of the most notable additions is an entirely new route.
Beginning July 1, Breeze Airways will launch nonstop service between Tampa International Airport and Atlantic City International Airport in New Jersey. According to the announcement, Breeze will be the only airline offering nonstop flights between the two destinations.

The route creates a new direct connection between Florida’s Gulf Coast and the popular New Jersey resort destination often known as “America’s Playground.”
Delta Expands Austin-to-Tampa Service
The final update affects travelers coming from Texas.
Delta Air Lines will double its service between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and Tampa International Airport beginning July 7. The route, which launched last year, has reportedly seen strong demand, prompting Delta to increase service to two daily flights.

The additional frequency should provide more flexibility for both business and leisure travelers heading between Central Texas and Florida.
Good News for Florida Travelers
While Spirit Airlines’ closure created uncertainty for many travelers, airlines have moved quickly to restore service and, in some cases, expand travel options.
