New construction activity and demolition work can now be seen throughout a larger section of The Lost Continent at Universal Islands of Adventure as Universal continues preparing the area for a future replacement project. The latest changes come just weeks after Universal officially confirmed that the land would be phased out to make way for a new themed area.

While Universal has still not announced what will ultimately replace The Lost Continent, the newest visible changes suggest work is continuing to move forward behind the scenes thanks to the latest aerial views from @bioreconstruct on X.

Construction Walls Continue to Expand

Guests visiting Islands of Adventure will find that construction walls now encompass an even larger portion of The Lost Continent than before.

The expanded work zone stretches farther into the former Poseidon’s Fury section of the land and blocks additional guest views into the area. Recent activity has included visible demolition work, exposed structural elements, and the removal of themed rockwork and other infrastructure that once helped define the land’s ancient mythology-inspired aesthetic.

The growing construction footprint is one of the clearest indications yet that Universal is actively preparing the area for significant redevelopment.

The Lost Continent Continues to Fade Away

The Lost Continent has gradually shrunk over the years.

Originally one of the six opening-day lands when Islands of Adventure debuted in 1999, the area once featured major attractions such as The Eighth Voyage of Sinbad, Poseidon’s Fury, and Dueling Dragons.

Over time, portions of the land were absorbed into The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, while several signature attractions eventually closed permanently. Poseidon’s Fury closed in 2023, following the earlier closure of The Eighth Voyage of Sinbad in 2018.

More recently, Universal also retired the interactive Mystic Fountain, another longtime icon of the land.

Universal Has Confirmed a New Land Is Coming

Earlier this month, Universal officially announced that venues and experiences within The Lost Continent would close in phases as the company prepares the area for a new themed land. The announcement also confirmed that the award-winning Mythos Restaurant is expected to remain open until 2027 before eventually closing as part of the larger redevelopment project.

At this time, Universal has not revealed the theme of the replacement land.

Rumors Continue to Swirl

Because Universal has remained quiet about future plans, fan speculation has ramped up significantly.

Among the most popular rumors are The Legend of Zelda, Pokémon, or other Nintendo-related properties. However, Universal has not confirmed any of these possibilities, and no official announcement regarding the future land has been made.

For now, all guests can see is a steadily growing construction site where one of Islands of Adventure’s most unique lands once stood.

A Major Change for Islands of Adventure

The Lost Continent was one of the defining lands when Islands of Adventure opened in 1999, featuring mythology-inspired architecture, towering stone facades, and attractions rooted in ancient legends. As demolition continues to expand throughout the area, the resort is taking another major step toward whatever comes next.

We’ll continue following all the latest Lost Continent construction updates, Islands of Adventure developments, Universal Orlando rumors, and future expansion announcements, so be sure to check back soon for more Universal Parks news.
