A MAJOR transformation is officially coming to Universal’s Islands of Adventure.

The Lost Continent

Universal Orlando Resort has confirmed that several venues and experiences inside The Lost Continent at Universal Islands of Adventure will permanently close in phases to make way for a brand-new themed area.

One of the biggest announcements tied to the closure plans is the eventual permanent closure of Mythos Restaurant, one of the most iconic dining locations in Universal Orlando history. According to Universal, Mythos is currently expected to close sometime in 2027 as redevelopment of the land moves forward.

The Lost Continent

The Lost Continent has been part of Islands of Adventure since the park originally opened in 1999 and is known for its ancient mythology-inspired architecture, waterfalls, temples, and immersive storytelling. Over the years, however, portions of the land have gradually disappeared following the expansion of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which replaced much of the original Lost Continent area with Hogsmeade in 2010.

Despite those changes, Mythos Restaurant remained one of the most recognizable locations in the park and has repeatedly received awards and recognition as one of the best theme park restaurants in the world. The full-service restaurant is known for its massive cavern-themed interior, Mediterranean-inspired menu, waterfalls, and views overlooking Islands of Adventure.

Universal has not yet officially announced what new themed land will replace the remaining Lost Continent spaces. However, the company confirmed closures will happen in phases over time as redevelopment continues.

At this time, Universal has also not revealed exact closure dates for additional Lost Continent experiences or shops expected to be impacted during the project.

The announcement comes as Universal Orlando Resort continues one of the largest expansion periods in its history with the upcoming opening of Universal Epic Universe and multiple resort-wide development projects currently underway.

For longtime Universal Orlando fans, the eventual closure of Mythos marks the end of another major piece of the park’s original Islands of Adventure history.
