If Hollywood Studios is on your Disney World calendar for Tuesday, October 20, 2026, this one is a friendly heads-up from one park fan to another: the gates are scheduled to close much earlier than usual.

Tower of Terror

Let’s walk through what’s changing, calmly and clearly, because a little planning can keep a surprise from becoming a stress.

Here is what is known. Disney’s Hollywood Studios is scheduled to close at 5 PM on Tuesday, October 20, instead of the usual 9 PM. That is four hours early. The park opens at its usual 9 AM, with Early Entry at 8:30 AM for eligible resort guests. The cause for the abrupt closure is a private event. The Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo has booked the park for attendees from 8 PM to 11 PM. The conference itself reportedly runs October 19 to 22 at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort. I have not seen an official statement from Disney or Gartner about the closure, so these details come from the park schedule and conference reporting, and it is always smart to confirm in the My Disney Experience app.

The other three parks appear to be operating on their regular hours that day. Magic Kingdom is listed from 9 AM to 10 PM, EPCOT from 9 AM to 9 PM, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom from 8 AM to 6 PM, with Extended Evening hours until 8 PM for eligible guests. As always, schedules can change, so check the official app before you go.

There are a few things the reporting did not cover, and I would rather say so than guess. It did not mention how this affects Annual Passholders, and it did not say anything about Lightning Lane. If you have a Lightning Lane reservation or a dining reservation for the evening, I would check your plans in the app and contact Disney if anything looks off. I have not confirmed how Disney will handle reservations that fall after the early closing time.

A 5 PM closing means you are really planning for a morning-and-afternoon day, not a full day. If you have little ones, that may actually be a nice thing, because many families start to fade by the late afternoon anyway. A good approach is to put the rides that matter most to your kids at the front of the day. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Slinky Dog Dash were suggested as early-day rides in the reporting, and as a general rule, popular rides tend to have shorter lines in the morning. I cannot promise what the crowds will be like, but starting early is rarely a bad idea.

I would also pay attention to height and intensity. Rise of the Resistance is a long, immersive ride with big dark scenes, and Slinky Dog Dash is a family coaster, but I have not confirmed height requirements in the reporting, so please check the official attraction pages before you go if your kids are small. And if you are hoping for fireworks or nighttime shows, this may not be the day, so it is worth thinking about whether another day might be a better fit for that kind of magic.

If you still want an evening out after an early Hollywood Studios close, the reporting pointed to the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival, which it said runs through November 21, as an option. Disney parks have a way of offering a plan B, and a snack-filled evening at another park can be a lovely way to end the day.

Disney

Private events are a normal part of life at Disney, and I do not think a single early closing should ruin anyone’s trip. But I do think the best way to handle days like this is with a little flexibility and a positive attitude. If you can, move your Hollywood Studios day to a different date. If you cannot, treat it as a “go early, go happy, and take a long lunch break” kind of day. Some of my favorite park days were the ones that did not go exactly as planned, and a shorter day can mean fewer meltdowns and more smiles. Just go in knowing the clock is ticking a little faster than usual.
