I’ll admit, event space square footage isn’t usually the kind of Disney news that gets me typing fast, but the numbers on this one are big enough that I had to actually sit with them for a second.

Disney’s Swan and Dolphin Resort officially cut the ribbon on more than 100,000 square feet of new meeting and event space, marking the largest expansion in the resort’s 36-year history.
With this addition, the property now offers 600,000 square feet of combined indoor and outdoor event space which, according to the resort itself, makes it the largest convention hotel on the entire U.S. Eastern Seaboard. That’s not a small claim, and it’s not one Swan and Dolphin is making quietly.
The new addition, a two-story venue connected directly to the Dolphin’s existing event space, is built around two major components:
- The Upper Peninsula Ballroom, a 38,000-square-foot divisible ballroom, along with 14,000 square feet of pre-function foyer space
- The Lower Peninsula, a 40,000-square-foot multi-purpose space, paired with an additional 24,000 square feet of pre-function area
Both levels lean into wide, open foyer space designed specifically for networking between sessions, and the whole addition carries forward the resort’s signature water-inspired architecture from Michael Graves…the same design language behind the property’s iconic 47-foot swan and matching 56-foot dolphin statues. That continuity matters more than it might sound like on paper; a lot of convention expansions end up feeling like a generic add-on bolted onto the side of an existing building, and it sounds like Disney made a real effort to avoid that here.
This expansion is part of a larger $275 million transformation at the resort, which broke ground back in late 2024 and also included upgrades to existing meeting spaces and guest rooms across the property. For a resort that already had a well-established reputation in the convention space, that’s a serious reinvestment rather than a modest refresh.

If you’re a leisure traveler who’s never thought twice about Swan and Dolphin as anything other than a well-located, non-Disney-owned resort with great pool access and killer restaurants, this is still worth knowing about. A resort landing a title like “largest convention hotel on the Eastern Seaboard” tends to bring a steady stream of business travelers and convention-goers year-round, which can mean everything from restaurant reservations to resort transportation feeling a little busier during major event weeks. It’s also a solid reminder that the Swan and Dolphin operates on its own track from the rest of Walt Disney World’s resort lineup — this kind of investment is about competing in the broader hospitality and convention market, not just serving theme park guests.
We’ll keep an eye on how this expansion affects the resort’s event calendar and guest experience going forward, so check back with Theme Park Scope for updates as more details come in.
