Halloween Horror Nights guests have a new mission this year: find Freaky Nikki, say the secret phrase, and you might walk away with a surprise.
Universal Studios Hollywood is adding an interactive twist to one of its newest character encounters at Halloween Horror Nights 2026, turning Freaky Nikki’s nightly appearances into something of a scavenger hunt through the park.
Universal previously announced that Freaky Nikki from the horror film Obsession will make special appearances during this year’s event, roaming the darkened streets of Universal Studios Hollywood as the latest victim of the mysterious One Wish Willow’s curse.
Now there’s another reason guests might want to track her down. The first 100 guests each event night who find Freaky Nikki and tell her a special secret phrase will receive a surprise giveaway item.
And getting that phrase requires a little preparation before you start searching.
How to Get the Freaky Nikki Giveaway
Guests hoping to participate need to follow the official Halloween Horror Nights Instagram account, @horrornights. Universal will post a secret phrase to its Instagram Stories each event night. Once you’ve found the phrase, your next task is finding Nikki somewhere inside Halloween Horror Nights. Tell her the secret phrase and, if you’re among the first 100 guests to do so that night, you’ll receive the giveaway.
There are some important restrictions.
The giveaway is available while supplies last, is limited to one item per guest, and is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Universal isn’t offering rain checks, and the promotion itself is subject to change.
Universal also hasn’t revealed what the surprise item actually is. That mystery makes the interaction a little more interesting, but it also means we don’t yet know whether guests will be searching for exclusive Obsession merchandise, a small HHN collectible, or something entirely different.
For anyone determined to get one, however, the biggest detail is that 100-person nightly limit.
Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood can attract enormous crowds, and Nikki is already being promoted as one of this year’s special character appearances. Once guests know where she’s roaming, 100 giveaways could disappear quickly.
Our advice? Check the Halloween Horror Nights Instagram Story before (or as soon as) you enter the event, memorize or screenshot the phrase, and keep an eye out for Nikki early in your night rather than waiting until you’ve finished every haunted house.
Just remember that this is still a roaming character encounter rather than a traditional merchandise distribution location, so there may not be a single booth you can simply walk up to for the prize.
Who Is Freaky Nikki?
If you haven’t seen Obsession, Nikki might be one of the more confusing additions to the 2026 Halloween Horror Nights lineup. Universal describes her as the latest victim of the One Wish Willow, a supernatural force at the center of the film’s story.
In Obsession, Bear has romantic feelings for his friend and coworker Nikki but is afraid to tell her. After encountering the supernatural One Wish Willow, he wishes that Nikki would love him. It works…but definitely not the way he intended.
Nikki’s feelings become increasingly intense and obsessive, transforming her into the character fans know as Freaky Nikki. What begins as affection escalates into increasingly disturbing behavior as the consequences of Bear’s wish spiral out of control.
For Halloween Horror Nights, Universal is taking that character out of the movie and placing her directly into the event. Unlike a traditional haunted house appearance, guests won’t necessarily know exactly where Nikki will be waiting. Universal has specifically described her as roaming the darkened streets, which makes the secret-phrase giveaway particularly fitting.
You’re supposed to find her. That makes this one of the more unusual interactive additions to Halloween Horror Nights this year. Instead of waiting in a queue for a house or standing in a designated location for a photo, guests are being encouraged to watch Universal’s social media, learn a nightly password, and actively search the event for a character.
It’s a small addition compared with a full haunted house, but it’s exactly the kind of hidden interaction that can make repeat HHN visits more interesting.
And there’s plenty more competing for your time this year. Halloween Horror Nights 2026 at Universal Studios Hollywood includes a massive lineup of haunted houses and experiences, including Sinners, Stranger Things, Hellraiser, Evil Dead Burn, Terrifier, Five Nights at Freddy’s, Killer Klowns From Outer Space, KILLceañera: Music by SLASH, and Dead, Deader, Deadest.
The event also brings Art the Clown to the Terror Tram, along with the return of The Purge: Dangerous Waters, multiple scare zones, themed food and beverages, and other entertainment throughout the park.
Universal is even introducing an Unmasking the Horror Tour Add-On at Universal Studios Hollywood for the first time, offering a separately purchased daytime behind-the-scenes look at select haunted houses.
So if you’re trying to squeeze Nikki’s secret giveaway into an already packed HHN itinerary, getting that phrase and beginning your search early could be important.
Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood runs on select nights from September 3 through November 1, 2026. The event is separately ticketed and is not included with regular daytime theme park admission.
