If you’re checking into a Disney World hotel in September, one date could make a pretty big difference in what’s included with your stay.

One of the best complimentary perks offered to Walt Disney World Resort hotel guests this summer is about to disappear, but thankfully, it’s not gone for good.

Disney’s complimentary water park admission on check-in day will officially end after September 8, 2026, meaning guests checking into an eligible Disney Resorts Collection hotel beginning September 9 will no longer receive free admission to Disney’s water parks as part of their stay.

The benefit has been available for guests with check-in dates from May 26 through September 8, 2026, giving every registered overnight guest listed on an eligible resort reservation complimentary admission to either Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon or Disney’s Blizzard Beach on the day they arrive.

That makes September 8 an important cutoff date. If your Disney World hotel check-in is September 8, you’re still eligible. If you’re checking in September 9, you’re not.

And because Disney doesn’t allow guests to transfer the benefit to another date, anyone eligible during the final days needs to use it specifically on their scheduled check-in day.

Disney originally introduced complimentary check-in-day water park admission for Resort hotel guests in 2025, when it was available throughout the year.

The benefit returned for 2026 with one major change: Disney limited it to the summer season. That still created a pretty significant value for families visiting Walt Disney World this summer.

Arrival day can be an awkward part of a Disney vacation. Depending on when your flight lands or when you arrive in Orlando, purchasing a full theme park ticket for only a few hours inside Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, or Animal Kingdom may not make sense.

The water park benefit gave eligible Disney hotel guests another option.

Instead of purchasing another park ticket or spending the afternoon around the hotel, guests could head to a Disney water park without purchasing separate water park admission.

The benefit also applied to each registered overnight guest on the reservation, rather than providing a single complimentary ticket per hotel room.

There were a few important restrictions. The complimentary admission could only be used on the actual day of check-in, couldn’t be transferred to another day, had no cash value, and was subject to water park availability, capacity, weather and seasonal closures. Separately priced activities and events weren’t included. Guests also needed to be staying at an eligible Disney Resorts Collection hotel.

For 2026, the eligible list was extensive, covering Disney’s Value, Moderate and Deluxe Resorts along with most Disney Vacation Club properties and even the Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort.

There’s another reason the September 8 cutoff makes sense. It also marks the final day Disney plans to have both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach operating simultaneously this season. Typhoon Lagoon begins its seasonal closure on September 9, leaving Blizzard Beach as Disney World’s operating water park. Having both Disney water parks open simultaneously has been an unusual feature of summer 2026.

In recent years, Disney has generally alternated operations between Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon, closing one while the other remains available. This summer, guests were instead able to choose between the two during the complimentary water park benefit period.

So September 9 effectively marks the end of Disney World’s summer water park season in two ways: Typhoon Lagoon closes, and complimentary check-in-day admission for Resort hotel guests ends.

But there is some very good news if you’re already planning a Walt Disney World vacation for next year.

The Free Water Park Perk WILL Return in 2027

Disney has already confirmed that complimentary water park admission on check-in day will return for summer 2027. Exact dates haven’t been announced yet, so we don’t know whether Disney will repeat the May 26 through September 8 window used in 2026.

There is also one notable eligibility change coming next year. Disney says the 2027 version will once again be available to guests staying at eligible Disney Resorts Collection hotels, but the Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort will be excluded from the benefit.

That’s an important distinction for anyone considering a Fort Wilderness stay next summer. Disney currently specifies the Campsites as the exclusion; it has not said that all Fort Wilderness accommodations will be excluded. Additional details and dates for the summer 2027 benefit will be announced later.
