A new permit points to a guest-friendly change on the way to one of Dark Universe’s attractions!
Universal Epic Universe has only been open a little over a year, but Universal continues to make adjustments throughout the park, and the latest appears designed to make Curse of the Werewolf more accommodating for a wider range of guests.
A newly filed permit indicates that modified seating is coming to Curse of the Werewolf, the spinning family coaster located inside Dark Universe.
According to the permit filed on August 24, 2026, the project is listed as “P375 902C Test Seat.” The scope of work specifically calls for “sidewalk alterations and owner provided accessory canopy and ride test seat installation.”
The permit is classified as a commercial permit for an accessory structure with “site work only” listed as the work type. It is associated with 4700 W. Sand Lake Road in Orlando, an address commonly used for Universal Orlando Resort permitting.
While the permit itself is for the installation of the test seat and its surrounding infrastructure, the project is particularly noteworthy as Universal works toward offering modified seating for Curse of the Werewolf.
Curse of the Werewolf already has a test seat available for guests, and Universal has previously incorporated test seats throughout Epic Universe so riders can check the fit of an attraction’s restraints before committing to the full queue.
For guests who have struggled with the existing restraint configuration, however, a modified ride seat could make a significant difference.
Modified seating is designed to provide additional accommodation for guests who may not comfortably or safely fit within an attraction’s standard restraint configuration. While the exact specifications of the Curse of the Werewolf modified seat have not yet been publicly detailed, the change could ultimately allow more guests to experience the Dark Universe coaster.
That distinction is important: the permit does not tell us exactly how the modified seat itself will differ from the existing seats, so we don’t want to speculate about dimensions, restraint changes, or who will qualify to use it until Universal provides additional information.
What we do know is that Universal is preparing the infrastructure for a new ride test seat installation, and that gives guests a way to determine whether the new configuration works for them before getting into the attraction’s queue.
Curse of the Werewolf has a 40-inch minimum height requirement, with guests between 40 and 48 inches required to ride with a supervising companion.
The coaster is one of two major rides within Dark Universe and puts guests in the middle of a werewolf encounter inspired by the land’s larger Universal Monsters mythology. Unlike the much more intense Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment nearby, Curse of the Werewolf was designed as a family coaster, with spinning ride vehicles adding an unpredictable element to each trip.
Making that experience accessible to more body types would be a welcome improvement, particularly because restraint fit has increasingly become an important consideration for guests planning theme park trips.
Universal has already been making similar accommodations elsewhere at the resort. Stardust Racers has also been slated to receive modified seating intended to accommodate larger guests, making the Curse of the Werewolf development part of a broader effort to improve ride accessibility at Epic Universe.
There is currently no confirmed date for when the modified seating or corresponding new test seat will become available at Curse of the Werewolf. The permit lists an expiration date of February 24, 2027, but permit expiration dates should not be interpreted as project completion or opening dates.
We’ll be watching Dark Universe for signs of installation and, more importantly, additional details about exactly how the modified Curse of the Werewolf seating will work.
As Universal continues tweaking and improving Epic Universe after its first year of operation, changes like this may not be as flashy as a brand-new attraction—but for guests who previously couldn’t ride, this one could make a very real difference.
