Love Halloween Horror Nights but wish the scareactors would give you just a little more personal space? Universal has something for that.

The Deathly Afraid Necklace is officially back at Universal Orlando for Halloween Horror Nights 35, giving guests who prefer a less intense experience a way to signal to scareactors that they would rather not be directly targeted while walking through the event’s outdoor scare zones.

The Deathly Afraid Necklace is a light-up wearable designed to alert Halloween Horror Nights scareactors that the person wearing it would prefer limited scares.

When worn during HHN, scareactors in the event’s outdoor scare zones should limit their direct scare interactions with that guest. The concept originally debuted at Universal Orlando during Halloween Horror Nights in 2025 as an option for guests who wanted to enjoy the atmosphere of the event without being personally targeted as frequently.

However, there’s one VERY important catch. It Does NOT Work Inside the Haunted Houses. Wearing a Deathly Afraid Necklace does not mean you’re getting a scare-free version of Halloween Horror Nights.

The necklace applies to scareactors in the outdoor scare zones and does NOT apply inside any of HHN’s haunted houses. Once you enter a house, you should expect to receive the same scares as everyone else walking through it.

Universal has also previously cautioned that the necklace doesn’t guarantee a completely scare-free experience, which makes sense when you’re attending an event specifically designed to be scary. It is intended to limit direct scareactor interactions rather than create an entirely scare-free path through HHN.

The returning Deathly Afraid Necklace is available now at Universal Orlando Resort ahead of Halloween Horror Nights 35. Recent reports indicate the 35th-anniversary version is priced at $20.

Last year’s version could be found at locations including the Universal Studios Store at Universal CityWalk, Universal Studios Store inside Universal Studios Florida, Halloween Horror Nights Tribute Store, MIB Gear, and merchandise carts near MEN IN BLACK: Alien Attack. Exact 2026 availability can vary, so you’ll want to check Universal merchandise locations during your visit.

For guests who love the elaborate HHN sets, food, entertainment, rides, and general Halloween atmosphere but aren’t necessarily interested in being singled out by a scareactor every five minutes, the returning necklace offers another way to experience the event.
