Grab the kids (or don’t, no judgment either way) — The Bluey Movie just got its first-ever footage shown off at D23, and it’s every bit as sweet as you’d hope!

The teaser clip shows Bluey and Bingo playing with a balloon, trying to keep it from touching the ground for as long as possible, in a brand-new 3D animation style built specifically for the big screen.
It’s a tiny, simple moment, but if you’ve ever watched this show reduce you to tears over something as small as a game of keep-it-up, you already know exactly what kind of magic they’re going for here.

The film is set to hit theaters on August 26, 2027, marking the franchise’s first-ever trip to the big screen. It’s written and directed by series creator Joe Brumm, with Richard Jeffrey co-directing and Amber Naismith producing — and yes, the voices you know and love are back, including Melanie Zanetti as Chilli and David McCormack as Bandit. Series composer Joff Bush is also returning to handle the score, so the film’s sound should feel instantly familiar.
Here’s a fun bit of trivia for you: this marks the first animated film based on a non-Disney cartoon that Walt Disney Pictures has ever released — every prior Disney film adapted from a non-Disney cartoon has been live-action. So Bluey’s about to make a little bit of history here, on top of everything else.

After its theatrical run, the movie will make its way to Disney+ (and to ABC iview and ABC Kids for fans in Australia), so even if a trip to the theater isn’t in the cards, you won’t be waiting too long to watch it at home.

Given how much love this show has already gotten (including becoming Disney+’s most-watched series worldwide in 2024), it’s safe to say expectations for this one are sky-high. Based on this first look, though? I think we’re in good hands. Are you taking the family to see The Bluey Movie in theaters? Let me know how excited you are!
