Get ready, because a brand-new Disney balloon is joining the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade lineup, and honestly, it might be the coolest one yet.
Say hello to Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey, making his balloon debut this November! It’s pulled straight from Mickey’s iconic turn in Fantasia, and it’s the first new Disney balloon announced for this year’s parade — which (fun fact) also happens to be the 100th march in the parade’s history. No pressure or anything, Mickey!
The reveal happened during D23 Day at Disneyland, and I have to say: this balloon is doing a lot! It’s giant, it’s dramatic, it’s got main character energy in the literal sense. This is just the newest chapter in Disney and Macy’s nearly century-long parade partnership, and it’s clear they’re pulling out the stops for this milestone year.
If Sorcerer Mickey wasn’t enough, Macy’s is also launching an exclusive Disney capsule collection to celebrate — think collectible keepsakes from brands like Citizen, Crocs, Hallmark, Loungefly, Super Smalls, and Swarovski. There’s a Loungefly set that mirrors the balloon almost exactly, and a tent that’s basically begging to be someone’s Christmas gift this year. Consider my wishlist updated.
For context on how big a deal balloon debuts are around here: last year brought a massive new Buzz Lightyear balloon for Toy Story’s 30th anniversary, and he was nearly as long as four Pizza Planet delivery trucks stacked end to end. Before that, Minnie Mouse joined the lineup as the tallest balloon in parade history at around 60 feet. Sorcerer Mickey’s got some serious company to keep.
