Pixar just teased its newest original movie at D23, and it’s going full ghost story on us; say hello to Ghost Market, coming to theaters in spring 2028.

The film follows Kyle, a content creator from Chicago who’s dragged along on a family vacation to Hawaii.

In classic content-creator fashion, Kyle wanders off filming, only to stumble straight into a mysterious hidden market — one that turns out to sit right at the crossroads of the living and the dead. As Pixar chief Pete Docter put it while introducing the teaser, this one’s officially Pixar’s first-ever ghost movie. A big first for a studio that’s made us cry about toys, emotions, and a literal balloon-powered house, so my expectations are already high.

The footage shown at D23 leaned into that eerie-but-charming Pixar tone: Kyle wandering into a spooky, dimly lit market, filming everything for content (relatable, honestly, we’d all document the afterlife for the algorithm), right before something startles him. Reports from the showcase describe the world as being packed with hungry ghosts, which, sure, terrifying, but also very on-brand for a Pixar antagonist.

This project isn’t coming totally out of nowhere, either — reports earlier this year hinted at an original Pixar film inspired by Asian myths about supernatural markets where the living and dead cross paths, originally under the working title Ono Ghost Market. Ghost Market looks to be that same project, now with an official teaser and a release window locked in.

Spring 2028 might feel far off, but if this teaser is any indication, Pixar’s cooking up something genuinely unlike anything else on their upcoming slate.
