Storybook Circus is finally starting to look like itself again, and Disney fans are going to notice the difference.

One of Magic Kingdom’s longest-running refurbishment projects has reached another exciting milestone. After months hidden behind construction walls, Big Top Souvenirs is sporting a vibrant new tent roof, while neighboring Pete’s Silly Sideshow appears to be in the final stages of preparation before welcoming guests back. Although work isn’t completely finished, the refreshed circus-themed area is beginning to regain the colorful charm that has made Storybook Circus a favorite stop in Fantasyland.
The biggest visual change can now be seen atop Big Top Souvenirs, where crews have installed an entirely new circus tent roof. The attraction closed in late February for an extensive exterior refurbishment, and by mid-March, the original weathered tent covering had been completely removed. Now, a bright blue replacement canopy stretches across the structure, instantly giving the building a cleaner, more vibrant appearance.

While the new roof has been installed, the refurbishment isn’t quite finished. The fabric has not yet been fully pulled taut or secured to the support structure, meaning guests can still expect to see additional progress over the coming weeks before the project reaches completion. Disney has previously stated that Big Top Souvenirs is expected to reopen later this year, though an exact reopening date has not yet been announced.

Just next door, Pete’s Silly Sideshow looks even closer to reopening. The meet-and-greet location received its own new tent roof earlier this spring, and this week, construction took another noticeable step forward as scrim and most scaffolding were removed from the exterior. Newly installed decorative banners now frame the attraction’s main entrance sign, while crews have been spotted putting the finishing touches on the digital wait time displays behind the remaining construction walls.
Perhaps the most encouraging sign of all is that the animated Pete figure above the attraction has come back to life. During recent visits, Pete’s oversized hat was once again seen lifting and lowering, suggesting show elements are once again operational as Disney prepares the venue for guests. It’s a small detail, but one that often signals testing is underway before a reopening.

While Pete’s Silly Sideshow has remained closed, guests haven’t completely missed out on meeting their favorite characters. Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, Donald Duck, and Goofy have continued greeting visitors outdoors in Storybook Circus throughout the refurbishment, ensuring families can still enjoy character interactions while construction continues.
Even better, Disney has now confirmed that Pete’s Silly Sideshow will officially reopen on June 27, 2026, with the indoor character meet-and-greets expected to move back inside once the location resumes normal operations. Big Top Souvenirs, however, will remain closed as work continues on its refreshed circus tent.

The refurbishment may seem like a relatively small project compared to the massive construction happening elsewhere across Walt Disney World, but it’s another example of Disney continuing to invest in the details that make Magic Kingdom feel special. With fresh colors, restored theming, and newly refurbished circus tents, Storybook Circus is quickly returning to the whimsical, colorful land guests have enjoyed for years.
