This is a major difference between Universal’s newest theme park and every Universal destination fans are used to visiting.

Universal Kids Resort is set to open this summer in Frisco, Texas, bringing a first-of-its-kind theme park experience designed specifically for families with young children. While excitement continues to build for the new destination, Universal has quietly revealed an operational detail that may surprise some future visitors. Unlike Universal Orlando Resort, Universal Studios Hollywood, and Universal’s other major theme parks, Universal Kids Resort will not operate year-round.
According to information currently listed on the Universal Kids Resort website, the new park will operate on a seasonal schedule rather than remaining open every day throughout the year. The information was discovered through the resort’s hotel booking system and confirms that guests should expect select closure periods after the park opens.

The seasonal operating calendar currently shows scheduled theme park closures during portions of November, December, and January. Listed closure dates include:
- November 3–4
- November 10–11
- November 17–18
- November 26
- December 25
- January 5–8
- January 11–15
- January 19–31
Universal also notes that these dates are subject to change and that additional closure dates could be added at the company’s discretion.
A Different Approach Than Other Universal Parks
The announcement marks a significant departure from Universal’s larger destinations, including Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood, which typically operate year-round. Instead, Universal appears to be tailoring operations to match the demand patterns expected for its new family-focused Texas resort.

Universal Kids Resort is specifically designed for families with young children and will feature attractions, entertainment, and experiences inspired by popular franchises, including:
- DreamWorks’ Shrek
- DreamWorks’ Puss in Boots
- DreamWorks’ Trolls
- Jurassic World
- SpongeBob SquarePants
- Despicable Me and the Minions
- Gabby’s Dollhouse
The resort will also include a 300-room on-site hotel designed to complement the family-focused theme park experience.
Opening Day Is Right Around the Corner
Universal recently announced that Universal Kids Resort will officially open on July 1, 2026, in Frisco, Texas. The park will feature seven themed lands filled with attractions, interactive play areas, character encounters, entertainment, dining, and shopping geared toward younger guests and their families.

While the seasonal closure schedule may surprise some fans, it reflects Universal’s unique approach to this new regional destination. As the first Universal theme park built specifically for younger children, Universal Kids Resort continues to distinguish itself from the company’s larger resorts in Orlando, Hollywood, and beyond.
What This Means for Future Visitors
If you’re planning a trip to Universal Kids Resort later this year or in early 2027, you’ll want to check the park’s operating calendar before booking travel. With scheduled seasonal closures already appearing on the calendar, families may have fewer available dates to visit compared to other Universal destinations.

As Universal continues preparing for the resort’s grand opening this summer, additional details regarding operating schedules, seasonal offerings, and future closure dates may still be announced.
