A familiar piece of Disney Parks history just made a surprising return, and longtime EPCOT fans immediately noticed.
One of the most beloved musical scores in Walt Disney World history has resurfaced in a new promotional video celebrating America’s upcoming 250th anniversary.
ABC’s newly released America 250 promotional spot features music from IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth, the legendary nighttime spectacular that entertained EPCOT guests for two decades before its final performance in 2019.
IllumiNations Music Returns
The promotional video, which celebrates the United States’ upcoming Semiquincentennial in 2026, utilizes portions of the iconic IllumiNations score, immediately catching the attention of Disney Parks fans.
For many EPCOT fans, the music remains one of the most recognizable and emotional soundtracks ever created for a Disney nighttime spectacular. The original score for IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth was composed by Gavin Greenaway, with early collaboration from Hans Zimmer, and was recorded by a 71-piece orchestra and 30-voice choir.
The score served as the emotional backbone of IllumiNations throughout its 20-year run at EPCOT’s World Showcase Lagoon. The nighttime spectacular debuted as part of Walt Disney World’s Millennium Celebration on October 1, 1999, and remained a guest favorite until its final performance on September 30, 2019.
A Familiar Connection to ABC
While hearing IllumiNations music outside EPCOT may seem unusual, this isn’t actually the first time the score has been used by ABC.
The music was previously featured during ABC’s millennium coverage in 1999 and 2000, as well as several other major broadcasts over the years. ABC’s use of the music in the new America 250 promotional campaign continues that long-standing connection.
A Nostalgic Surprise for Disney Fans
Even years after the show’s retirement, IllumiNations remains one of the most beloved nighttime spectaculars in Walt Disney World history.
The show’s themes of unity, humanity, and global connection continue to resonate with Disney fans, and hearing its iconic score once again has sparked plenty of nostalgia among longtime EPCOT visitors.
While the America 250 promotional video isn’t directly connected to Walt Disney World, the inclusion of the IllumiNations soundtrack serves as a reminder of just how enduring the show’s legacy remains.
