What used to be a plain show building wall is now a full-on tribute to Disney history.
As construction continues at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, a major visual update has just been completed, and it’s giving guests their clearest look yet at the park’s upcoming reimagined land.
The retro Walt Disney Studios billboard mural on the exterior of the theater housing The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure is now fully finished.
After weeks of progress, the final details have been added, including:
- Cleaned up lettering across the entire mural
- Refined design elements throughout
- The addition of Mickey Mouse completes the look
This billboard isn’t just decorative; it’s directly inspired by a real sign that once stood at Disney’s Hyperion Studio (1926–1940), tying the new land to actual company history.
Longtime fans might remember that this same wall previously featured a “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” billboard.
That signage was removed before The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure debuted, leaving a blank canvas that’s now been completely transformed into this vintage-inspired tribute.
The result? A storytelling element that feels far more connected to Disney’s roots rather than just promoting a single attraction.
The transformation doesn’t stop at the mural.
The theater (which will be renamed Studio Theater), has also received a full exterior refresh, including:
- New beige paint across the building
- Red accents added to columns and trim
- Updated paintwork around the exit areas, now matching the rest of the structure
In another big step forward, construction walls around the theater have now been removed. This reveal shows off newly added planters and trees, expanded greenery, and a more open, polished look for the surrounding area.
It’s one of the clearest signs yet that this project is entering its final stages.
All of these updates are part of the reimagining of Animation Courtyard into the upcoming Walt Disney Studios Courtyard.
When complete, the area will feature increased green space, pavement with character autographs and handprints, character meet-and-greet opportunities, a reimagined Magic of Disney Animation experience with interactive elements, and the new Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! stage show (opening May 26).
The courtyard itself is expected to open around the same time, while some experiences (like Magic of Disney Animation) will debut later.
Interestingly, The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure has remained open throughout construction, meaning guests have been able to experience the show even as the transformation continued around it.
With the billboard complete, the theater refreshed, and construction walls removed, this corner of Hollywood Studios is finally starting to look like the concept art.
