If you love those deep-cut Disney details that most guests walk right past, this is one you’re going to want to keep an eye on. A brand-new mural is currently taking shape, and it’s pulling inspiration straight from the golden age of Disney animation.

Over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, a new 1930s-style “Silly Symphony” mural is being painted on the Studio Theater building as part of the park’s ongoing transformation. (Thanks to a peek at this transformation from WDWMAGIC.)

The design is inspired by classic Walt Disney Studios-era signage, specifically referencing the “Mickey Mouse and Silly Symphony Sound Cartoons” branding seen during Disney’s early animation days.

Right now, the mural is still in progress with early outlines and paintwork visible, but the final product is expected to resemble a vintage billboard straight out of Disney’s original Hyperion Studio era.

The Silly Symphonies were a groundbreaking series of animated shorts produced between 1929 and 1939, known for pushing animation forward with music, color, and new techniques.

By bringing that aesthetic into the park, Disney is reinforcing the theme of this newly reimagined area: stepping into the world of classic animation and the early days of the studio itself.

This mural is just one piece of a much larger overhaul happening in the Animation Courtyard area, which is being reimagined into a new “Walt Disney Studios” environment set to open in phases starting May 26, 2026.

The space will include updated experiences like The Magic of Disney Animation, along with new entertainment, character experiences, and design elements that celebrate Disney’s filmmaking roots.

And if this mural is any indication…the level of detail is going to be next level!

It’s subtle. It’s historic. And it adds a layer of authenticity that helps transform the area into something more than just another land — it makes it feel like a real working studio from Disney’s past.

With more updates rolling out as this reimagined area comes together, now’s the time to start watching Hollywood Studios closely. Keep checking back for more construction progress, first looks, and hidden details.
