Disney just dropped a new update on its upcoming resort, and this one has been a LONG time coming.

A fresh update on Disney Lakeshore Lodge at Walt Disney World is giving us a better idea of what’s coming to this long-awaited resort, and why it’s shaping up to be one of the most unique stays on property. Set along the shores of Bay Lake near Magic Kingdom, this new Disney Vacation Club resort is finally taking shape after years of delays, and the latest details confirm that Disney is leaning heavily into nature-inspired storytelling, immersive design, and waterfront experiences.
Disney Lakeshore Lodge has been a long time in the making. Originally announced as Reflections — A Disney Lakeside Lodge, the project was paused and later reintroduced under its current name. Now, construction is actively moving forward, with the resort expected to open in 2027.

The resort is being built on the former site of River Country, Disney World’s original water park, between Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge, and along the waterfront of Bay Lake. This location alone makes it one of the most interesting new additions to the Magic Kingdom resort area.
Disney Lakeshore Lodge is expected to be a Disney Vacation Club (DVC) resort with a pretty massive footprint.
Here’s what’s been confirmed so far:
- Around 900 rooms total
- A mix of traditional hotel rooms and DVC villas
- Cabin-style accommodations along the water
- A large main lodge building with multiple floors
This puts it in the same size category as some of Disney World’s largest deluxe resorts.

Some of the standout features currently in development that Disney has already confirmed is the resort will be home to a lazy river-style pool area, a lakeside table-service restaurant, waterfront cabins and walking paths, and a breathtaking scenic view of Bay Lake.
The entire resort is designed to reflect nature and Disney storytelling, pulling inspiration from classic films and the surrounding environment.
Because of its location near Magic Kingdom, Lakeshore Lodge is expected to offer boat transportation to Magic Kingdom, bus transportation to other parks, and even easy access to Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge. These transportation methods follow suit with similarly classed deluxe resorts with villa options.

Construction on the resort is well underway, with major structures already visible. Recent updates show the main building taking full shape, work continuing on cabins and exterior features, and ongoing development of recreational areas like the pool and lazy river.
While there’s still work to be done, the project is clearly moving toward its 2027 opening timeline.
Disney Lakeshore Lodge isn’t just another addition—it fills a very specific gap at Walt Disney World. It combines the rustic, nature-driven feel of Fort Wilderness, the deluxe experience of a DVC resort, and a brand-new story and design concept.

And with its location near Magic Kingdom, it’s likely to become one of the most in-demand resorts once it opens.
