One of Disneyland’s most iconic rides is about to change, and if you’re a Star Wars fan, you’re going to want to book that trip ASAP.

A fan-favorite Disneyland ride overlay is officially making its return, and it’s one that completely transforms one of the park’s most iconic attractions. Hyperspace Mountain, the Star Wars-themed version of Space Mountain, is coming back for a limited time — bringing high-speed thrills, cinematic music, and an entirely new storyline to Tomorrowland. Here’s everything you need to know about when it’s returning, what’s changing, and why the timing of this comeback is a bigger deal than you might think.
Disneyland is bringing back Hyperspace Mountain, the Star Wars overlay of Space Mountain that has become a seasonal favorite among guests.

Starting on April 28, this limited-time overlay replaces the traditional Space Mountain experience with a fully immersive Star Wars adventure, making it one of the most sought-after ride experiences whenever it returns.
If you’ve never experienced it before, Hyperspace Mountain is not just a small update — it’s a complete transformation!
Here’s what changes:
- Riders are recruited into the Rebel Alliance
- You board an X-wing starfighter on a mission
- You’re thrown into a battle against the Empire
- Expect encounters with TIE fighters and Star Destroyers
- All set to a dramatic, Star Wars-inspired score
It’s faster, louder, and way more cinematic than the standard version of Space Mountain (basically turning the ride into a full Star Wars battle experience.)
Disney has not announced an official end date for the overlay just yet.
However, based on timing and upcoming park updates, it’s expected to stick around until at least mid-May or possibly into early June.
So if this is on your must-do list, you’ll want to plan your visit sooner rather than later.

This isn’t just a random overlay comeback — it’s happening during a major Star Wars moment at Disneyland.
Right after Hyperspace Mountain returns on April 29, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge expands its timeline as new characters arrive, including Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo. And in late May, a new update to Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run debuts, where guests will be able to choose destinations like Bespin, Endor, and Coruscant.
All of this combined turns Disneyland into a full-blown Star Wars destination for the next few months.

If you’ve been waiting for the perfect time to visit Disneyland, this might be it. Between the return of Hyperspace Mountain and the massive Star Wars updates happening across the park, there’s a lot of new energy hitting Tomorrowland and beyond.
Make sure to keep checking back for the latest Disneyland updates, ride overlays, and planning tips, because this season is shaping up to be one of the most exciting yet!
