According to multiple reports, The Walt Disney Company has hired high-profile attorney Charles Harder to intervene ahead of the book’s release. Harder is known for handling major media and defamation cases, signaling that Disney is taking this situation seriously.
The book in question—reportedly titled “The House of Mouse: Bob Iger and the Fight for the Soul of Disney”, is being written by Wall Street Journal reporter Robbie Whelan and is expected to offer an unfiltered look at Iger’s leadership and the inner workings of Disney.
So, what exactly is Disney doing?
Reports indicate that legal representatives have sent multiple letters to publisher HarperCollins requesting more information about the book’s contents, while also raising concerns about potential inaccuracies.
And here’s where things get even more interesting.
While Disney is technically leading the legal effort, sources suggest that Iger himself is deeply concerned about how he’ll be portrayed — especially given speculation that the book may include input from former insiders, including ex-CEO Bob Chapek and other former employees.
Within publishing circles, the biography is being described as a detailed and potentially revealing account of Disney’s recent leadership struggles, including Iger’s exit in 2020 and his dramatic return to power in 2022.
Notably, Disney has reportedly declined to participate in the project at all — meaning the final product could lean heavily on outside perspectives rather than official input from the company.
At the same time, Iger is said to be working on his own book, which could offer a competing narrative and give him the chance to tell his side of the story.
