The leadership transition officially took place on March 18, 2026, when D’Amaro succeeded longtime CEO Bob Iger, who had returned to the role in 2022 to guide the company through a major restructuring and prepare for a leadership handoff.

Disney’s board of directors voted unanimously to appoint D’Amaro as the company’s next CEO, ending a closely watched succession process for one of the most powerful positions in the entertainment industry.

D’Amaro, a nearly three-decade Disney veteran, previously served as Chairman of Disney Experiences, the division responsible for the company’s theme parks, resorts, cruise line, and consumer products.

During his time leading that segment, Disney Experiences became one of the company’s strongest financial drivers, responsible for billions in revenue annually and hundreds of thousands of employees worldwide.

From Theme Parks to the Corner Office

Before becoming CEO, D’Amaro held several high-profile roles within the company.

He previously served as the President of Walt Disney World Resort, President of Disneyland Resort, and even Chairman of Disney Experiences.

D’Amaro first joined Disney in 1998 and steadily rose through the company’s leadership ranks before ultimately being tapped to lead the entire organization.

A Major Moment for Disney’s Future

As CEO, D’Amaro now oversees a massive global company that includes Disney’s film studios, streaming services, television networks, consumer products, and theme parks.

The leadership change comes at a pivotal time for Disney as the company navigates a rapidly evolving entertainment landscape shaped by streaming competition, social media platforms, and changing audience habits.

In his first message to employees, D’Amaro emphasized the importance of storytelling, innovation, and collaboration across the company’s many divisions as Disney moves forward.

Bob Iger Remains With the Company Through 2026

While D’Amaro now serves as CEO, Bob Iger will remain involved with the company as a senior advisor and member of the board through the end of 2026, helping guide the transition to the new leadership team.

Iger’s tenure helped shape Disney into the modern entertainment powerhouse it is today, overseeing major acquisitions including Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and 21st Century Fox.

Now, with D’Amaro officially taking the reins, Disney is entering a new era — one that many fans and analysts will be watching closely as the company continues to expand its storytelling across movies, streaming, and experiences around the world.
