Disney is bringing the world of Pixar into live sports—and it’s happening sooner than you think.

In a unique crossover event, Disney, Pixar, ESPN, and the NHL are teaming up for a special themed broadcast that blends hockey with the emotional world of Inside Out. Here’s what we know so far.
ESPN, The Walt Disney Company, Pixar, and the National Hockey League have announced a new collaborative broadcast experience titled the “Inside Out Classic.”
The special presentation will air on April 5, 2026, at 7:00 PM ET, featuring a matchup between the Washington Capitals and New York Rangers.
The broadcast will offer an alternative viewing experience inspired by Pixar’s Inside Out, integrating elements from the film into the live game presentation.
While full details on the execution have not yet been revealed, similar Disney-branded sports broadcasts in the past have included character overlays, themed graphics, and interactive storytelling elements designed to appeal to both sports fans and younger audiences.

This event continues Disney’s growing strategy of blending its entertainment brands with live sports programming.
In recent years, ESPN and Disney have experimented with alternate broadcasts that incorporate major franchises, using animated characters and themed environments to reimagine traditional sports coverage in a more accessible and family-friendly format.

The “Inside Out Classic” builds on that concept by bringing Pixar’s emotional storytelling into a live NHL game setting—creating a hybrid experience that merges sports and animation.

The broadcast is expected to be available across ESPN and Disney platforms, though additional details on where to watch and how the themed elements will be implemented may be announced closer to the event date.
At this time, Disney has not confirmed whether similar themed broadcasts will follow, but the collaboration highlights the company’s continued focus on expanding how audiences engage with both sports and storytelling.
