If you’ve had the Play Disney Parks app sitting on your phone for years without giving it much thought, today’s the day to actually open it one more time.
Starting tomorrow, it’s gone for good.
The Play Disney Parks app officially shuts down effective September 16, 2026. Once that date hits, the app gets pulled from app stores entirely, and existing users won’t be able to log in anymore. Disney first confirmed the shutdown about a month ago via theme park reporter Scott Gustin, and hasn’t given a specific reason for retiring it or announced any kind of replacement app to fill the gap.
If you’ve built up achievements, trivia scores, or other saved progress in the app over the years, today is genuinely your last chance to look back at any of it before it disappears along with everything else.
What You’re Actually Losing
The app has functioned as a free companion for queue waits and slower park moments across both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort, and its biggest, most beloved piece by far has been the Star Wars: Datapad integration in Galaxy’s Edge. Through the app, guests could scan cargo, translate Aurebesh, interact with droids and control panels, intercept transmissions, and work through a whole layer of interactive Black Spire Outpost storytelling that most casual visitors probably never even realized was there. That entire Datapad experience retires along with the app.
Beyond Galaxy’s Edge, the app also powered general queue games and trivia, digital achievement tracking, and the ACE Guide to Pandora at Animal Kingdom…all of which go away tomorrow.
What’s Sticking Around
Here’s the genuinely good news: Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters isn’t disappearing. Disney specifically confirmed this experience will keep running after the shutdown, since it’s built around MagicBand+ and physical screens throughout Galaxy’s Edge rather than depending on the app itself. If chasing bounties through Black Spire Outpost has been part of your Galaxy’s Edge routine, that part of the fun isn’t going anywhere.
The murkier situation involves DuckTales World Showcase Adventure at EPCOT, which typically uses the app to guide guests through a scavenger hunt across several World Showcase pavilions. That experience has already been down for refurbishment for several weeks, and Disney has confirmed it has no information to share yet about its future once the app it relies on is gone. Whether it comes back in some other form, gets replaced entirely, or quietly doesn’t return is genuinely unclear right now.
What to Do Today
If you’ve got the app installed, this is the moment to actually use it one last time. A few quick things worth doing before tomorrow:
- Screenshot or otherwise save any achievements or progress you want a record of
- Play through a favorite queue game or trivia set one more time, especially if you’ve got a park visit today
- If you’re at Galaxy’s Edge today, take the Datapad for one last spin through Black Spire Outpost while it’s still functional
