Anytime a Disney retail space starts getting described as an “immersive world” instead of just, you know, a store, I’m interested.

Disneyland Paris is opening exactly that kind of shop later this month, and it’s replacing a location a lot of longtime visitors will actually remember.

Disney Wonders, a new boutique built around immersive storytelling rather than standard retail shelving, opens September 22 in Disney Village at Disneyland Paris. It’s replacing the resort’s original Disney Store, which had been in that spot for a long time and was, by most accounts, feeling pretty dated compared to everything being built around it.

First announced back in April, Disney Wonders is themed around four major universes: Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, and Marvel. The exterior facades come dressed in original artwork specific to each of those worlds, and the interior leans hard into spectacle — two central chandeliers inside the shop will each display more than 40 individual art pieces featuring iconic characters and locations, which puts the total art on display somewhere north of 80 pieces before you even get to the merchandise itself.

There’s also a nice detail waiting at checkout: illustrations of classic Walt Disney Animation Studios scenes, with some of them brought to life courtesy of Tinker Bell. It’s a small touch, but it’s exactly the kind of thing that turns “waiting in line to pay” into its own tiny moment instead of just dead time.

Disney Wonders isn’t an isolated addition, it’s the newest piece of a genuinely ambitious, years-long transformation of Disney Village that’s been underway since 2022. For anyone unfamiliar, Disney Village is Disneyland Paris’ answer to Downtown Disney at the Disneyland Resort or Disney Springs at Walt Disney World: a shopping, dining, and entertainment district sitting between the parks and the resort hotels, right on the shores of Lake Disney.

What makes this transformation different from a lot of Disney’s bigger projects is that it’s not a full demolish-and-rebuild situation. Disney’s been reworking the existing district in place (new architecture, new landscaping, and a steady rotation of new restaurants and shops) rather than closing the whole area down and starting from scratch. That approach has already brought guests things like Rosalie, a two-story, 500-seat restaurant with terraces overlooking Lake Disney, and a fully remodeled Sports Bar & Lounge, alongside other new retail additions like Deco by Disney and Disney Style.

It’s a fun bit of history, too: Disney Village opened all the way back in 1992 under the name “Festival Disney,” and even then it served as the central hub connecting the parks and hotels — complete with a train station that’s still there today. Watching that same space get reinvented piece by piece more than three decades later is a pretty good reminder of how much a Disney resort can evolve without losing its original function.

If a Disneyland Paris trip is in your future, Disney Wonders is shaping up to be a legitimately worthwhile stop even if you weren’t planning much shopping; the art installations alone sound like they’re doing a lot of the heavy lifting here. And if you haven’t been to Disney Village in a few years, this is a good excuse to revisit the whole district, given how much of it has quietly changed since 2022.

We’ll keep tracking Disney Village’s transformation as more of it comes online, so check back with Theme Park Scope for updates on what’s opening next.
