As of Wednesday, September 9, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon has officially closed for its seasonal refurbishment, with Monday, September 8 serving as the last day guests could splash around in the surf pool or float through Miss Adventure Falls. This wraps up a genuinely rare stretch for Walt Disney World: both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach had been operating at the same time since late May as part of the resort’s Cool KIDS’ Summer promotion, giving guests the flexibility to pick either park all summer long. That kind of dual-park overlap has only happened once before since 2019, so if you got to enjoy both this summer, you experienced something Disney doesn’t offer very often.
One detail worth flagging if you’re planning a trip further out: Disney hasn’t announced a reopening date for Typhoon Lagoon yet. Past seasonal closures have typically come with at least a rough return window, so the open-ended nature of this one is a little more notable than usual. We wouldn’t read too much into it yet, but it’s worth keeping an eye on if you had a spring or summer 2027 trip built around Typhoon Lagoon specifically.
Here’s the reassuring part — Disney’s Blizzard Beach remains open and fully operational (weather permitting, as always with outdoor water parks in Florida). If you’re visiting Disney World anytime soon and were counting on a water park day to escape the heat, you’re not out of luck, you’ve just got one option instead of two for the time being.
Blizzard Beach’s whole “ski resort that melted” theming is honestly a fun contrast to enjoy in the middle of a genuinely sweltering Florida afternoon, so if you haven’t been in a while, this is a good excuse to go back.
If a Disney World visit is on your calendar for the next several months, it’s worth building your plans around Blizzard Beach being the water park option rather than assuming you’ll have a choice between the two.
