She’s been waiting in the shadows for over 15 years…

…and HHN 35 is FINALLY giving her the spotlight!
Sideshow of Decay is the second scarezone confirmed for Halloween Horror Nights 35, and it might be the deepest dive into HHN lore we’re getting all year. This one’s all about Cindy Caine, one of the event’s most underused characters, and it’s dragging a whole graveyard of the past back with her. Here’s everything we’ve got on it so far.
Sideshow of Decay is set in the Hollywood section of Universal Studios Florida, an area of the park designed as a recreation of the city of Hollywood (minus the famous sign). The zone takes place specifically within a carnival junkyard, and it’s positioned as the “back portion” of the larger Infernal Carnival of Nightmares theme. Halloween Horror Nights 35 runs select nights from August 28 through November 1, 2026.

This scarezone was announced on July 14, 2026, just one day after Infernal Carnival of Nightmares kicked off the scarezone reveals, and it’s very much a continuation of that same story.
The Official Premise
According to Universal’s own description, Cindy’s time has finally come. Using Dr. Oddfellow’s dark sorcery, she opens a portal within the carnival’s junkyard and uses it to resurrect decayed nightmares from the past, bringing them back to haunt anyone who wanders through.
Who Is Cindy Caine?
If you’re not a longtime HHN historian, Cindy Caine’s backstory is worth knowing, because it’s genuinely one of the more tragic origin stories in event history.
Cindy is an original HHN character, not licensed from an outside horror property. According to Universal’s lore, her story begins at an orphanage, where she landed after the death of her parents. She struggled to get along with her peers there, and her volatile nature eventually got the better of her — she burned the orphanage down, killing everyone inside except herself. She was then taken in by Dr. Albert Caine, the twisted mortician better known across HHN history as The Caretaker, who became her adoptive father.
Cindy first appeared at Halloween Horror Nights 20 in 2010 as The Caretaker’s daughter, and her story has popped up a handful of times since, she’s been featured in houses like The Orfanage: Ashes to Ashes (HHN 20), which showed her unleashing her destructive rage on her caretakers and peers, and ScreamHouse: Inheritance (HHN 31), where she returned to her family’s ruined estate to reclaim her birthright. Interestingly, Cindy’s roots actually trace back even further…she was originally conceived as the icon for HHN 12 in 2002 (an event that took place at Islands of Adventure under the “Islands of Fear” banner) as a character named “SINdy,” the demented daughter of a mortuary owner. That early concept was reworked into the Cindy Caine we know today.

Despite this long history, Cindy has never officially served as an HHN event icon — which is exactly why longtime fans consider her one of the most underused characters in the event’s lore, and why her return for a full scarezone in HHN 35 is such a big deal.
The Dr. Oddfellow Connection
Here’s the twist that’s gotten hardcore fans buzzing: Universal has never previously connected Cindy to Dr. Oddfellow. Her storyline has always run through her father, The Caretaker. Oddfellow, on the other hand, is a sorcerer and interdimensional showman who spent years as a secondary character in Jack the Clown’s backstory before becoming an event icon in his own right at HHN 32 in 2023.
For HHN 35, Universal is using the “Oddverse” (the network of portals Oddfellow travels through between dimensions and time periods) as the mechanism to bridge these two previously separate corners of HHN mythology. It’s the same concept powering the Jack and Oddfellow storyline over in Infernal Carnival of Nightmares, which suggests this whole anniversary year is being built as one connected universe rather than a handful of unrelated scarezones.

For the collectors and lore-trackers out there: Sideshow of Decay marks Cindy’s eighth appearance at Halloween Horror Nights overall, and her fourth appearance specifically in a scarezone across the event’s history.
Easter Eggs to Look Out For
Keep an eye on the Ball Toss game props scattered throughout the scarezone — several of the throwables have reportedly been designed as references to other HHN characters and properties, including callouts to fellow Icons. If HHN 35’s pattern holds (remember the hidden “ICON” acronym in Infernal Carnival of Nightmares?), this zone is shaping up to be packed with deep-cut nods for longtime fans to hunt down
