PizzeRizzo, we hardly knew ye (again)!

Disney has confirmed that Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza is taking over the beloved pizza spot’s spot in the new Monstropolis land at Hollywood Studios.

This marks the second major transformation for this particular building. It opened all the way back in 1995 as Pizza Planet, inspired by Toy Story, before getting re-themed in 2016 into PizzeRizzo’s Muppets-flavored version, easter eggs and all. Now it’s swapping mice and frogs for monsters, taking its name from Archie, the lovable six-legged Fear Tech mascot who’s spent his fictional career getting “borrowed” by mischievous Monsters University students.

Disney’s billing this as the top-rated pizza in Monstropolis, and functionally, it sounds like it’s keeping the same job PizzeRizzo always had: quick-service, counter-style pizza in an identical footprint to the space before it. Based on early hard hat tour reporting, the layout itself is being preserved, with the changes leaning mostly cosmetic…a refreshed interior and new thematic window dressing, though booths and tables are apparently being reinstalled toward the tail end of the project. So don’t expect a wildly different dining experience mechanically, just a whole new coat of monster-themed paint on a formula that’s worked for three decades now.

Archie’s isn’t operating alone, either. Right next door is the Monsters University Alumni Club, a walkable space guests dining at Archie’s can explore, built around the university’s various student clubs, fraternities, and sororities — including references to Roar Omega Roar, Python Nu Kappa, and Oozma Kappa for anyone who’s got the film memorized. One particular highlight inside: the elite Scarer’s Club, honoring the school’s legendary scarers from years past.

Archie’s is just one piece of a much bigger dining and entertainment lineup coming to Monstropolis. Harryhausen’s, the high-end sushi restaurant featuring an Audio-Animatronics tentacled sushi chef, is set to bring the iconic Monsters, Inc. dinner scene to life nearby. The Glob Theater will host a brand-new stage show called “Welcome to Monstropolis,” starring Mike and Sulley, and the Scareporium will serve as the land’s dedicated merchandise shop.

As for timing: Monstropolis is opening in phases at Hollywood Studios starting in 2027, with a theater, two eateries, and a shop all arriving in that first wave. The land’s headliner, the Monsters, Inc. Door Vault roller coaster, isn’t part of that initial rollout — it’s still under construction and is more likely targeting a 2028 opening.

We’ll miss Rizzo’s ridiculous upstairs wedding reception theming as much as anyone, but between the Alumni Club, Harryhausen’s, and the rest of what’s coming, Monstropolis is shaping up to have plenty to make up for it.

Excited to grab a slice at Archie’s once Monstropolis opens? Let me know if you’ll miss PizzeRizzo’s Muppets theming!
