It’s apparently not Morphin Time at Disney+ after all.

After more than a year of development (and a surprisingly recent sign that things were still moving forward) the planned live-action Power Rangers reboot is reportedly no longer happening at Disney+.
The project was being developed by Hasbro Entertainment and Disney’s 20th Television, with Percy Jackson and the Olympians executive producers Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz attached to write, executive produce, and serve as showrunners.
But according to a new report from Deadline, Disney has now decided not to move forward with the series.
And apparently, creative differences weren’t the problem.
According to Deadline, the decision came down to the economics of producing the series.

The new Power Rangers show would have required a substantial production budget, and while Disney’s 20th Television was involved in developing the project, Disney doesn’t actually own Power Rangers.
That distinction reportedly became a major factor.
The Power Rangers franchise is owned by Hasbro, meaning Disney would have been investing heavily in a series built around intellectual property it doesn’t control.
Ultimately, Deadline reports that Disney determined the required budget couldn’t be justified under those circumstances.
So, at least according to the current report, this wasn’t necessarily a case of Disney disliking the creative direction of the reboot. It appears to have been a business decision.
What Was the New Power Rangers Series Supposed to Be?
The Disney+ project first surfaced in March 2025, when reports revealed that Hasbro Entertainment and 20th Television were developing a new live-action Power Rangers series.
Steinberg and Shotz, who work on Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians, were brought aboard to develop the show.
The plan was reportedly to reinvent Power Rangers for a new generation while still creating something recognizable and exciting for longtime fans of the franchise.

And unlike many previous Power Rangers seasons, the new show was expected to move away from the franchise’s traditional production model of incorporating footage from Japan’s Super Sentai series.
Unfortunately, we’ll apparently never get to see what that new version would have looked like.
The Timing Makes This Even More Surprising
What makes the cancellation particularly surprising is how recently the project still appeared to be alive.
As recently as San Diego Comic-Con in July 2026, a Hasbro representative reportedly indicated that the Disney+ Power Rangers series remained in development.

Less than a month later, Deadline is reporting that Disney has decided not to move forward.
For fans who have been waiting years for the next major live-action chapter of Power Rangers, it’s another frustrating development in what has already been a very long road.
This Isn’t the First ‘Power Rangers’ Reboot to Fall Apart
Before Disney+ entered the picture, Hasbro had been developing an entirely different Power Rangers universe for Netflix.
That project was expected to span television and film, with Jonathan Entwistle overseeing the larger franchise and Jenny Klein attached as showrunner of a live-action series.
After spending more than two years in development, however, the Netflix project was scrapped in 2024, with Hasbro reportedly looking for a new creative direction and a new partner.
Eventually, that new partner appeared to be Disney.
Now, the Disney+ project has reportedly met the same fate.
So What’s Next for ‘Power Rangers’?
That’s the big unanswered question.
Deadline’s report means the planned Disney+ series isn’t moving forward, but it doesn’t necessarily mean Hasbro is finished trying to bring Power Rangers back to live-action television.
Hasbro still owns the franchise, and the company could potentially shop another version of Power Rangers to a different studio or streaming service in the future.

For now, though, the Disney+ era of Power Rangers appears to have ended before it ever really began. And considering fans were hearing encouraging updates about the project only weeks ago, this one is probably going to sting.
We’ll be watching to see what Hasbro decides to do with the franchise next. Keep checking back with Theme Park Scope for the latest Disney+, entertainment, streaming, movie, television, and Disney news.
