Everything is about to get a whole lot more awesome…if the deal comes together.

Keanu Reeves may soon be adding another major franchise to his already impressive résumé. According to a new report, the John Wick and The Matrix star is in talks to lead Universal Pictures’ upcoming live-action/CG hybrid LEGO movie, reuniting him with a familiar filmmaker in the process.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Keanu Reeves is in negotiations to star in Universal Pictures’ untitled live-action and computer-generated hybrid LEGO film. While plot details are still being kept under wraps, the project is expected to combine live-action filmmaking with CG animation, marking a new direction for LEGO movies on the big screen.

If the deal is finalized, the film would reunite Reeves with director Josh Cooley, who previously directed Toy Story 4. Disney and Pixar fans may remember Reeves from that film, where he voiced the scene-stealing Canadian stunt toy Duke Caboom, one of the movie’s breakout characters.

The new LEGO movie is being developed by Universal Pictures and The LEGO Group, following Universal’s acquisition of the film rights to the iconic brick brand in 2020. Unlike Warner Bros.’ previous fully animated LEGO films, including The LEGO Movie, The LEGO Batman Movie, and The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, this project is expected to blend live-action storytelling with CGI animation.

At this point, Universal has not announced Reeves’ potential character, additional casting, or story details. A screenwriter has also not yet been revealed publicly, making the project one of the studio’s most closely watched upcoming family films.

The report also notes that the project carries added urgency behind the scenes. Universal’s exclusive LEGO film rights reportedly have a limited window remaining, meaning the studio is working to move a project into active development as it continues building its future theatrical slate.

For Reeves, the potential casting would continue an already busy stretch of family-friendly projects. In addition to reprising his fan-favorite role as Duke Caboom in Toy Story 5, the actor is also set to return as Shadow the Hedgehog in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 4.

Although nothing has been officially confirmed beyond the negotiations, the combination of Keanu Reeves, Josh Cooley, and the LEGO brand is already generating plenty of excitement among movie fans.
