The ghosts are finally starting to peek through again.

Haunted Mansion

After months of exterior refurbishment work, Disney guests are finally getting a clearer look at one of Magic Kingdom’s most iconic attractions. Construction crews have begun removing the large themed scrim that has covered much of the Haunted Mansion, marking a major milestone in the ongoing restoration project.

Guests visiting Magic Kingdom will notice that much of the themed scrim covering The Haunted Mansion’s façade has now been removed, revealing more of the attraction’s signature architecture for the first time in months. The refurbishment has been taking place throughout 2026 while the attraction has remained open to guests.

The biggest change can be seen around the mansion’s tower and rooftop, where the printed scrim has been taken down, allowing guests to once again see the attraction’s iconic Gothic-inspired exterior. Most of the scaffolding surrounding the roofline has also been removed, although a few sections remain visible as work continues.

Not all of the refurbishment is complete just yet.

Some green construction scrim is still wrapped around the pair of chimneys on the left side of the mansion when viewed from Frontierland, indicating that crews are finishing work in that section before the project is fully wrapped up.

The exterior refurbishment began earlier this year and has included scaffolding, themed scrims designed to resemble the mansion’s façade, landscaping work, and additional construction around nearby support buildings. Despite the extensive work happening outside, The Haunted Mansion has remained open throughout the refurbishment, allowing guests to continue riding one of Magic Kingdom’s most beloved attractions.

The timing is welcome news for summer visitors, as more of Liberty Square’s famous skyline is becoming visible again, just as crowds continue arriving for the busy vacation season. While Disney has not announced an official completion date for the exterior project, the removal of the majority of the scrim suggests the refurbishment is entering its final stages.

Refurbishment ongoing

If The Haunted Mansion is on your must-do list during your next Magic Kingdom visit, you’ll once again be able to admire much more of its eerie exterior before stepping inside to join the 999 happy haunts.
