Before the first guests splashed into Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon, something truly special was already happening inside the park.

Olympic gold medal swimmer Simone Manuel joins approximately 100 Disney lifeguards in leading swim instruction during The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon on Thursday, June 25, 2026.

While many visitors know Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon for its thrilling water slides, lazy river, and massive wave pool, the water park once again became the site of an important life-saving event this week. Disney welcomed hundreds of children from across Central Florida for the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson, helping teach water safety skills before the park officially opened for the day.

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon once again participated in the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson on Thursday, June 25, 2026, joining hundreds of aquatic facilities around the globe in an effort to promote water safety and drowning prevention. The worldwide initiative is organized by the World Waterpark Association and brings together water parks, pools, and aquatic centers to teach children critical swimming and water safety skills.

Before Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon opened to day guests, hundreds of children from nonprofit organizations throughout Central Florida gathered inside the park to participate in a coordinated swim lesson led by Disney lifeguards and certified instructors. The event focused on teaching essential water safety techniques while helping children build confidence in and around the water.

The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson has become an annual tradition at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and supports a mission that’s especially important in Florida, where water safety education can play a critical role in preventing childhood drownings. According to the World Waterpark Association, the initiative was created to raise awareness that swimming lessons save lives by encouraging children to develop safe swimming skills at an early age.

Disney’s participation highlights the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting the local community beyond its theme parks and attractions. By opening Typhoon Lagoon before regular operating hours for this event, Disney Cast Members and lifeguards were able to dedicate their time to teaching life-saving skills in a fun, welcoming environment.
