The transformation of one of Magic Kingdom’s most beloved attractions appears to be taking another step forward.

As work continues on the highly anticipated reimagining of Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress, Walt Disney World has filed a new construction permit that may offer a glimpse into what’s happening behind the scenes.
According to newly filed documents, Disney has submitted a permit for the installation of new set elements inside the attraction’s show building in Tomorrowland. The permit names longtime Disney contractor Icarus Exhibits, Inc., a company known for producing and installing themed show sets, exhibits, and scenic elements for attractions and experiences throughout Walt Disney World.

While the permit does not reveal exactly what is being installed, the filing is the latest sign that work is progressing on the attraction’s largest update in decades.
Disney previously announced that Carousel of Progress would receive a major overhaul, including the addition of a new Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic and completely refreshed scenes featuring the attraction’s iconic family. The updated show is expected to take guests through new eras, including the 1960s, 1980s, the turn of the millennium, and a reimagined vision of the future.

The latest permit suggests that physical set installation may now be underway, bringing the project one step closer to reopening. Given Icarus Exhibits’ involvement, the work could include scenic backdrops, props, show elements, or other themed components designed for the attraction’s new scenes.
Carousel of Progress originally debuted at the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair before eventually finding its permanent home in Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland. The attraction remains one of Walt Disney World’s most historic experiences and the longest-running stage show in American theater history.

Disney has not yet announced an official reopening date beyond confirming the attraction is expected to return in 2027. However, with permits continuing to surface and construction activity moving forward, fans may be getting closer to seeing the next chapter of this classic attraction take shape.
