A beloved Disney World holiday tradition is officially coming to an end.

After more than two decades of holiday magic, Walt Disney World has reportedly permanently retired the iconic Grand Floridian Gingerbread House. The beloved Christmas tradition last appeared during the 2024 holiday season and will not return following the resort’s lobby transformation.

For many Walt Disney World fans, the holiday season simply wasn’t complete without a visit to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa to see and smell the iconic Gingerbread House towering in the lobby.

Now, it appears that beloved tradition has officially come to an end.

According to new reporting, Walt Disney World has permanently retired the famous Grand Floridian Gingerbread House, ending a holiday tradition that had become a must-see seasonal experience for countless Disney guests. The life-sized display, which celebrated its 25th anniversary during the 2024 holiday season, has long been considered one of the most iconic Christmas offerings at Walt Disney World.

The Gingerbread House did not return during the 2025 holiday season due to the extensive refurbishment taking place inside the Grand Floridian lobby. At the time, Disney stated that ongoing construction projects, including the addition of a new lobby bar and other enhancements, prevented the seasonal display from being installed. Many fans assumed the Gingerbread House would return once renovations were complete.

However, reports now indicate that the redesigned lobby layout has effectively eliminated the space previously used to construct and operate the massive gingerbread structure and accompanying holiday snack shop. As a result, the Grand Floridian Gingerbread House is not expected to return in future holiday seasons.

For longtime Disney World visitors, this marks the end of a tradition that dates back to 1999. Each year, Disney’s bakery team transformed the Grand Floridian lobby into a holiday centerpiece featuring a life-sized gingerbread house constructed from hundreds of pounds of gingerbread, chocolate, honey, powdered sugar, and other ingredients. Guests could purchase treats directly from the display while enjoying one of the most photographed holiday offerings anywhere at Walt Disney World.

The display became so popular that visiting the Grand Floridian during the holidays evolved into a tradition of its own. Many guests would ride the Monorail loop simply to admire the Gingerbread House, browse holiday merchandise, and experience the resort’s elegant Christmas décor.

While the Grand Floridian’s display may be gone, holiday gingerbread experiences continue elsewhere across Walt Disney World Resort. In recent years, guests have enjoyed seasonal gingerbread displays at Disney’s Beach Club Resort, Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and EPCOT’s Gingerbread Spaceship Earth display during the Festival of the Holidays.

The news is likely to be disappointing for many Disney fans, especially those who hoped the Gingerbread House would make a triumphant return after construction wrapped up. Online discussions throughout the past year showed just how much the display meant to holiday visitors, with many calling it one of the most iconic Christmas traditions at Walt Disney World.
