One of the most exciting construction projects at Walt Disney World has just reached a major milestone. The first piece of roller coaster track has officially been installed for the upcoming Monsters, Inc. Door Vault coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, marking the beginning of track installation for what will become Disney’s first-ever suspended roller coaster.

For Disney fans eagerly following every update from the future Monstropolis, this is one of the biggest signs yet that the attraction is beginning to come to life.

New aerial photos from Bioreconstruct reveal that the first section of overhead coaster track has been mounted to the attraction’s steel support structure inside the massive show building. Just days ago, the track was still resting on the building floor awaiting installation. Now, the first piece has officially been secured in place — a significant step forward in construction.

Because the attraction is housed almost entirely inside an enclosed show building, this milestone is only visible from above, giving aerial photography one of the only ways to see the progress.

Disney’s First Suspended Coaster

Unlike traditional roller coasters where the track sits beneath the train, the Door Vault coaster will feature an overhead track, with guests suspended below it and their feet dangling freely throughout the experience. Disney has already confirmed the attraction will also feature the company’s first-ever vertical lift, recreating the unforgettable scene from Monsters, Inc. where Mike and Sulley race through the towering warehouse filled with hanging doors.

The combination of a suspended coaster and vertical lift promises to make the attraction one of the most technologically ambitious rides ever built for a Disney park.

Monstropolis Is Taking Shape

The Door Vault coaster will serve as the signature attraction inside Monstropolis, the all-new land replacing the former Grand Avenue area at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

In addition to the coaster, Disney has announced guests will be able to dine inside Harryhausen’s, the famous sushi restaurant from the original Monsters, Inc. film, while the former MuppetVision 3D theater will be transformed into The Glob, bringing another iconic movie location to life. Disney recently revealed that the story of the land takes place during H.U.M.A.N. Day, a celebration welcoming humans into Monstropolis after monsters switch from collecting screams to collecting laughter.

A Huge Milestone for Construction Fans

While there’s still a long road ahead before guests board the attraction, installing the first section of track represents one of the most exciting milestones in any roller coaster project.

From here, crews will continue connecting additional track pieces throughout the show building, gradually transforming the steel framework into the ride layout that guests will eventually experience.

Every new support column, beam, and section of track brings Disney’s ambitious Monstropolis expansion one step closer to reality.
