The increase wasn’t limited to one movie. Every previous Toy Story film saw significant growth on Disney+, as longtime fans introduced the series to a new generation while others refreshed their memories before heading to theaters.

Disney has also highlighted the continued popularity of the franchise with a dedicated Toy Story collection on Disney+, making it easy for subscribers to binge the complete series.

The Perfect Lead-In to Toy Story 5

The streaming boom comes just as Toy Story 5 delivered the biggest opening weekend in franchise history, earning approximately $312 million worldwide, including a $160 million domestic debut. The film also became the biggest movie opening of 2026 so far, proving audiences were more than ready to reunite with Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of the gang.

With so many viewers revisiting the earlier films beforehand, it’s clear nostalgia played a major role in building excitement for Pixar’s latest sequel.

A Franchise That Never Goes Out of Style

Since the original Toy Story premiered in 1995 as the world’s first fully computer-animated feature film, the franchise has become one of Disney’s most successful and influential properties. More than three decades later, families continue to return to these stories, whether it’s for the laughs, the emotional moments, or simply spending time with characters they’ve grown up alongside.
