If you’ve gotten used to the rhythm of Disney’s virtual queues (phone out, refresh the app, hope for the best) Olaf Draws! is about to throw you a curveball.
This one works completely differently, and it’s worth understanding before you head to Hollywood Studios.
Olaf Draws!, the new Animation Academy-style drawing class inside The Magic of Disney Animation, will use a virtual queue during busier periods to manage crowds. That much sounds familiar if you’ve dealt with virtual queues for Rise of the Resistance, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, or Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in the past. Here’s where it gets different: this virtual queue isn’t in the My Disney Experience app at all.
How to Actually Join It
Instead of pulling out your phone and tapping a button at a scheduled time, guests will need to physically walk up to Olaf Draws! and sign up in person with a Cast Member. You’ll give them your phone number, and you’ll receive a text message with your return time once a spot opens up. From there, you’re free to go explore the rest of The Magic of Disney Animation, grab a bite, or hop over to a nearby attraction while you wait…you’re just not standing in a physical line for it.
A Cast Member confirmed that Disney plans to run this virtual waitlist as needed, specifically during busier periods, rather than having it active at all times. So there’s a real chance you can just walk up and get right into a session during quieter park hours, without needing to join a waitlist at all.
Because this system skips the app entirely, the usual strategy of watching your phone at park opening won’t help you here. The practical takeaway is pretty simple: the earlier you physically get to Olaf Draws!, the better your odds of landing a spot before the waitlist fills up for the day. That’s a meaningfully different approach than what Disney World regulars are used to, and it adds a new decision point to rope drop at Hollywood Studios; do you head straight for Olaf Draws! first thing, or prioritize a different attraction and take your chances on the waitlist later?
If Olaf Draws! doesn’t work out for your timing, it’s worth remembering that The Magic of Disney Animation still has plenty else going on — Off the Page’s character encounters, the Once Upon A Studio Theater, and the Drawn to Wonderland playground are all still there to fill the time while you wait for your return window.
If getting into Olaf Draws! is a priority for your visit, treat it like you would any other high-demand, limited-capacity experience: get to the park early, head straight for the sign-up desk, and get your name on the list before doing anything else. Since Disney’s only running this waitlist “as needed,” it’s also worth simply checking in first…there’s a real chance you can skip the whole process if the crowds haven’t built up yet that day.
