One of Universal Orlando’s most recognizable landmarks has officially fallen.

Another piece of Universal’s Islands of Adventure history has disappeared.
The towering Poseidon’s Trident, which stood at the entrance to the former Poseidon’s Fury attraction for nearly three decades, has been demolished as construction crews continue clearing land in The Lost Continent for future development. The removal marks one of the most significant visual changes to the area since Poseidon’s Fury permanently closed in 2023.
The Iconic Trident Is Gone
Overnight, demolition crews brought down the massive trident that had become an unmistakable symbol of The Lost Continent since Islands of Adventure opened in 1999.
New aerial photos from bioreconstruct on X show the once-iconic structure lying in pieces amid the ongoing demolition site, surrounded by broken rockwork and construction debris. For years, the trident towered above the attraction’s entrance plaza and served as one of the park’s most recognizable photo opportunities.

Its removal follows months of demolition activity throughout the former Poseidon’s Fury complex, including the destruction of the neighboring Sindbad Theater and surrounding infrastructure as Universal prepares the area for future expansion.
The Lost Continent Continues to Change
Poseidon’s Fury officially closed on May 10, 2023, ending a 24-year run as one of Islands of Adventure’s original opening-day attractions. In 2025, Universal confirmed that approximately five acres of The Lost Continent would be cleared as part of long-term site preparation for future experiences, though the company has not announced what will ultimately replace the land.

While much of the former attraction has now been demolished, a handful of themed elements still remain standing—for now. However, with the pace of construction accelerating, it’s likely only a matter of time before the remaining structures are removed as well.
What’s Next for The Lost Continent?
Universal has remained tight-lipped about its long-term plans for the area, leading to plenty of speculation among theme park fans. Although rumors continue to circulate about what could eventually replace The Lost Continent, Universal has not officially announced any new attractions or themed lands for the site.

For longtime fans, the loss of Poseidon’s Trident marks the end of another chapter in Islands of Adventure history. While it’s bittersweet to see such an iconic landmark disappear, its removal is also a clear sign that Universal is making way for the park’s next generation of experiences.
