The skyline around Universal Orlando just changed again.

Construction on Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift continues to accelerate, and some of the attraction’s most eye-catching elements are now becoming impossible to miss. New track sections have been installed on the coaster’s towering spike element, giving fans an even better idea of just how massive this record-breaking attraction will be when it opens.

Crews have added two new sections of track to “The Spike,” one of the signature elements of Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift at Universal Studios Hollywood.

The newly installed track sections can now be seen towering above the surrounding construction site and are clearly visible from the plaza in front of Universal Studios Florida’s sister resort attractions via recent construction photos. The addition marks another major milestone for the ambitious roller coaster project.

Construction crews have also installed mounts for future safety netting along portions of the structure. Safety netting is a common feature on modern roller coasters and is often added during later phases of construction after major track sections have been installed.

You might also notice a few tagged areas along these new stretches of track for the upcoming coaster.

It’s extremely common for roller coaster tracks and support columns to have places built into them for accessories such as netting. These suggest that from the spike of the coaster’s track we’ll likely see this netting attached here in it’s upcoming stages.

In other words, what may look rough today will almost certainly look showroom-ready by opening day!

One of the most intriguing details from the latest construction update is what comes next.

According to construction observations, future track pieces scheduled for installation on The Spike will introduce additional twists to the coaster layout. These twisting sections will help shape one of the attraction’s most dramatic visual elements and give fans a better sense of how riders will navigate the towering structure.

Construction crews have also attached chains to portions of The Spike. These chains are being used to simulate the weight of future track sections that have not yet been installed, helping engineers account for load distribution as work continues.

Hollywood Drift Continues to Take Shape

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is expected to become Universal Studios Hollywood’s first major outdoor roller coaster and one of the most ambitious attractions ever built at the park.

The coaster’s unique rotating ride vehicles, high-speed launches, and sprawling track layout are already transforming the skyline around Universal CityWalk and Universal Studios Hollywood.

With additional track now installed, safety netting preparation underway, and more twisted track elements expected soon, the project continues to move steadily toward its highly anticipated debut.

And if you’ve been watching construction from afar, now might be the perfect time to start paying even closer attention.
