If you’ve ridden VelociCoaster or Stardust Racers, this system will look very familiar.

As Universal Studios Hollywood prepares to open Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift later this summer, new details have emerged about how guests will store their belongings before boarding the high-speed attraction.

According to reports, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will become the first attraction in Universal Studios Hollywood history to utilize double-sided lockers and metal detectors as part of the ride experience.

What Are Double-Sided Lockers?

The locker system is similar to the one currently used at several high-intensity attractions at Universal Orlando Resort, including VelociCoaster and Stardust Racers.

Guests will place loose articles such as phones, wallets, keys, hats, and bags into a locker while moving through the queue. After experiencing the ride, they’ll retrieve those items from the opposite side of the locker bank near the attraction exit. The system is designed to keep the queue moving efficiently while preventing loose items from entering the ride area.

People using the lockers

According to information shared by the Orange County Register, guests will use the barcode from their admission ticket or annual pass to access the lockers. Guests using digital tickets on their phones will be able to receive a paper barcode from a Team Member for locker access.

Safety Is a Top Priority

The new procedures appear to be tied directly to the attraction’s extreme ride profile.

Universal Creative Vice President Jon Corfino told the Orange County Register that “safety is paramount” for the new coaster, which is expected to reach speeds of 72 miles per hour while navigating multiple inversions across more than 4,100 feet of track.

The attraction will also feature Universal’s groundbreaking rotating ride vehicles, designed to simulate the sensation of drifting while racing through the course. Guests will experience 360-degree vehicle rotation throughout the ride, creating one of the most technologically advanced coaster experiences Universal has ever built.

Another Sign Opening Day Is Getting Closer

The locker reveal is just the latest sign that Hollywood Drift is nearing completion.

In recent weeks, Universal has conducted extensive ride testing and even begun testing with human riders. The resort also recently clarified that a previously posted opening date was incorrect, while reaffirming that the coaster remains on track to debut sometime this summer.

Deadline

When it opens, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will become Universal Studios Hollywood’s first-ever high-speed outdoor roller coaster and the fastest roller coaster in Universal’s portfolio, reaching speeds of up to 72 mph.

For theme park fans, the addition of double-sided lockers may not be the most exciting reveal. But it’s another indication that Universal is preparing for massive crowds and an attraction experience unlike anything currently operating at the Hollywood park.
