If you’re hoping Disney gets Monstropolis right, it sounds like Pixar is making sure of it.
As development continues on the upcoming Monstropolis land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Walt Disney Imagineering has shared a new behind-the-scenes detail that should have Pixar fans excited.
During a recent project site tour, Imagineers revealed that they are working closely with Pixar Animation Studios throughout the development process to ensure the new land feels as authentic as possible to the world fans first fell in love with in Monsters, Inc.
Imagineers specifically gave a shout-out to Pete Docter, Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer and the director of Monsters, Inc., noting that he has maintained a strong interest in the project and remains actively involved as the land takes shape.
That’s significant news for Disney fans.
Docter is widely considered one of Pixar’s most influential creative voices, having directed beloved films including Monsters, Inc., Up, Inside Out, and Soul. His continued involvement suggests Disney is working hard to ensure Monstropolis feels like a natural extension of the original film rather than simply a theme park adaptation.
The new land is expected to bring guests into the bustling monster city seen in Monsters, Inc., complete with themed environments, dining experiences, character encounters, and Disney’s first-ever suspended roller coaster inspired by the famous door vault sequence from the movie.
While Disney has not yet announced an opening timeline, construction preparation continues around the future Monstropolis site as excitement builds for one of the largest additions coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in years.
If Pete Docter is keeping a close eye on the project, that’s probably a very good sign for Monsters, Inc. fans.
